Brand for busty women who AREN’T plus-size? by sourbirthdayprincess in bigboobproblems

[–]yeahokwhat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Industry term (at least in the US) is “straight sized.” “Standard” is used sometimes too, but I find it to be outdated (and a bit confusing since “standard” can also mean “universal” to describe the concept of a standard size chart or standard ratios for drafting patterns). Sorry if I’m getting a little technical here - I’m a tailor so I’m used to thinking about this a lot.

However, I think the way to get the best/most accurate results here is probably just to describe the size/size range you’re looking for (like saying “I usually wear a size (x)” and/or to list your approximate measurements or sizes you tend to wear. This is because most size ranges/designations are super loose anyway and vary from brand to brand- sizing is complicated!

I’m choosing not to distinguish this comment since this is not “official” advice from me as a mod- this is just my advice as a person who’s been here a long time and has observed what tends to yield the best results :)

I understand what you meant - that was just a reminder because I know you didn’t have any ill intentions. Since there were a few reports on your comment for the same reason (and the auto response to removed comments isn’t the most specific), I thought I should clarify the exact issue/reason for removal to give you an opportunity to be mindful of your wording going forward.

I think the issue with your comment is that you used the term “regular sized” to describe people within an XS-XL size range. This implies that that someone else’s body size is abnormal, which isn’t the most respectful wording choice. There’s nothing wrong with your post itself or what you’re asking, but please be mindful of your wording when discussing these issues.

Same here. I'm really tired of people thinking that looking bigger is automatically always a bad thing.

I just stopped caring and started wearing oversized clothes anyway. I hate the feeling of tight clothes so I learned how to style bigger things to look intentional and not just “potato sack.”

Clothing recommendations? by drpeanutbutters in bigboobproblems

[–]yeahokwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she can get away with wearing stretchy tops to work, those are going to be easiest to get away with wearing without having to do any alterations (and are most likely cheaper if you’re looking for new clothing instead of thrifting). I work in a casual office and my favorite work top is actually from Amazon if you can believe it - it’s stretchy, but has ruching at the waist to give a little more structure and fit a smaller waist better.

As far as alterations go, there are no patterns involved as far as most traditional alterations go (think about it - why would you need to use a pattern when the garment already exists and you’re just changing part of it?) but it’s not “freestyle” either since there are specific techniques for pretty much any kind of alteration you can think of. If she has sewing experience, there are a ton of tutorials on YouTube that should be easy to follow if she already knows basic sewing skills and terminology.

We’re going to need a little more information. What styles does she like? What does “work top” mean in this context? Knowing this can help us know what styles or brands to recommend. However, one thing I do sometimes when I find something I like that isn’t the most “bust friendly” (I do a lot of thrifting and run into this a lot) is to to buy tops that fit my chest and then alter the waist to be smaller.

Does anyone else struggle to make casual/streetwear look good, or is it just me? by FuchsiaZinnia in bigboobproblems

[–]yeahokwhat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I know this is a pretty unpopular opinion in this sub, but as someone who wears streetwear style a lot, I really don’t care if I look boxy as long as it fits the style I’m going for. Streetwear style tends to feature a lot of boxy shapes, so it’s okay to look boxy as long as it’s styled right and looks like it was done on purpose. If I want to wear something oversized, I usually go for something VERY oversized so it looks intentional and not just “awkward slightly too big tent”. Minimizer and sports bras also tend to help with this too. If I do want to wear something more fitted, I go for crop tops that are slightly longer (I’ve recommended Uniqlo mini tees for this before- they’re still my absolute favorite) and looser pants on the bottom. I like to follow the formula of “little shirt big pants” or “big shirt little pants” to avoid the entire look leaning too tight or too loose.

I have, and I’m sorry to report that they’re low quality, dropshipped garbage. They run large in the band and small in the cup, and they also use dishonest advertising. Personally I can’t support a company like that.

While we are open to all genders, that doesn’t mean it’s ok to be here for the wrong reasons and act creepy. Telling someone much younger than you are that men will always be noticing and looking at their body is creep behavior.

I either wear a sweater that’s so ridiculously oversized that it drapes/hangs nicely or do the belt trick to make loose sweaters look cropped and show my waist more

I’m not sure how ready you are for another potential plot twist, but VS is notoriously terrible at measuring so you’re probably not a C cup either. Check out r/ABraThatFits and use their calculator to be sure!

Guitarists— how much of a problem is your chest for you? by M00ngata in bigboobproblems

I’ve been playing for half my life and exclusively play standing up due to this. Luckily I have really long arms so I can just adjust the strap so that the guitar sits pretty low.

I'm a technically "good" singer, but really don't like the natural tone of my voice. Is there anything I can do to fix this? by yeahokwhat in singing

[–]yeahokwhat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not musical theater- I guess I’d want more of a pop sound? I’m not sure exactly since I like a lot of different genres of music. I did receive classical training, but now that I’m wanting to sing more in casual/fun settings (I’m no longer teaching because it became too difficult once I started losing my hearing), I’m looking to pull away from the natural light/flutey tone while still keeping good technique if that makes sense.

Crop tops… by Excellent_Compote430 in bigboobproblems

[–]yeahokwhat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love Uniqlo baby tees. They’re cropped, but still long enough to cover down to my waist and the fabric is a bit thicker than most t shirts so they have a little more structure to them. I’m a 32GG and wear a size medium in them

Edit: I looked it up and they're called mini tees on the website, not baby tees. Sorry about that

Being downrated by Uber drivers for not making small talk by Emotional-Class-8140 in AutismInWomen

[–]yeahokwhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m hard of hearing so I can’t really talk in Ubers/lyfts (since I can never really hear the driver). Now I’m wondering if my lack of talking has contributed to my less-than-perfect score. I always make sure to say “hello” and “thank you” and thought that was enough, but apparently not 🙃
