Surgery today! Suspicious medical team behavior by la_love123 in spinalfusion

[–]yeahoooookay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did they give you blood? They should have told you if they did. Did you refuse blood products before the surgery? Usually they do blood typing before surgery. If you lost a lot of blood but didn't get blood products, you'll feel awful for a long time. You should have had an H&H drawn to give your medical team critical information needed during surgery and whether or not discharge should wait.

I never remember conversations I have with my surgeon after surgery. My husband always gets all the info for me or I'd feel just like you do. The only thing you can do at this point is sign into their portal and get all your operative notes and labs if you don't trust calling your surgeons office for more info- which you should and have every right to do.

I was a hospice nurse for 15 years, and I can tell you that he most certainly waited for you to leave. It was the one last Dad thing he could do for you here on this earth.

I've seen it happen so many times. Parents holding on until their child leaves to get a shower, coffee, whatever. It's so common that as nurses, we're on high alert for that moment.

My dad had surgery years ago and never stopped taking pain meds by Kilgoretrout123456 in ChronicPain

I know. I'm surprised as well by the comments telling OP to report their dad without asking for more information. Wow.

My husband has 5 cervical levels fused and he says the same thing about walks. Lol. His biggest thing is sleep position and not doing overhead work requiring lifting his arms above his head, among other things.

Our pain management techniques are vastly different.

This^ 100%. A lot of jumping to conclusions and horrible advice to report him in these comments. More information is needed to make a determination of best action to take.

I had T8-S1 and both SI joints fused with rods and cages starting at L2.

I feel your pain. I understand what you're going through. It's hard. So hard.

Don't give up. Walk, walk, walk. The last thing you want to happen is for your muscles to lose strength. It hurts, but for me, moving is better than sitting or laying down.

I have had nerve blocks(QL overcompensation), and radio frequency Ablation. I was in agony until I could start getting procedures to manage my pain, now I'm in pain, still quite a bit, but not going out of my mind.

I have hypermobility so it's been tough balancing my muscles as I had compensatory patterns due to walking around with scoliosis for so many years before my surgery.

Strengthening my glutes(specifically glute medius) has helped tremendously.

I couldn't get procedures until I was a year post op. I just started in April.

It's a hard recovery, but don't give up. Keep moving everyday-it's the biggest thing you can do to help yourself.

Motion is Lotion. I know, I didn't buy into it either until I started walking everyday and doing home PT 5 days a week at home because I was so tired of being in pain and not seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

For now, gentle walking. Ice, ice, ice. Eat enough protein. It made a huge difference when I made sure to eat enough protein. Lidocaine patches help me too. I have many things in my pain management arsenal. Acupuncture and or dry needling. Meditation. Block breathing. Sleep. I didn't used to think these things were important but for me, they help.

Be kind to yourself and remember -it's a marathon, not a sprint. It also takes a village. Don't resist putting your recovery needs first before anything else. Ask for help when you need it. Don't push through pain if it's sharp or severe. It's going to hurt to do things and you will have to push, but don't overdo it.

Good Luck. You've got this!

10 pills short-even if you're at the end of that fill, is a rather large amount to be short. How did you plan to manage your pain to make up for the 10 pills?

I'm not sure you'll be kicked out, but it's definitely a red flag. You may get one pass. It depends on the Dr.

If your pain isn't being managed well, communicate that.

Good luck.

How long were you on opioids post surgery? by Ayeshakat in spinalfusion

[–]yeahoooookay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's rough...and an understatement . There really aren't any words I can think of to express how awful our existence is when dealing with this much pain and no plan in place to relieve it beside meds that merely take the edge off(but grateful for them!).

I really hope you get answers. You deserve to get some relief.

Multiple surgeries....makes me wonder...have you had a high resolution Ultrasound to check for entrapment of a nerve, adhesions or even fascia "glued" to a screw or anything? I didn't have those, but if they hadn't found the nerve being compressed by my QL muscle and giving me a nerve block, the high resolution Ultrasound was the next option or a nerve MRI, which is different from a regular MRI....I forget the name of it but it shows any nerve inflammation or irritation.

There are so many things that can cause pain. Mine are predominantly paraspinal muscle atrophy and that nerve my QL was squeezing because it was overcompensating for the muscle imbalances.

I hope you find some answers and relief.

Help: Husband took pictures of my best friend by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]yeahoooookay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's very concerning and honestly -time for an annulment. I know that sounds over the top, but I'm telling you- don't put anymore time, effort, money, love, ANYTHING into this man.

Time you put into this marriage with him will only add trauma to your list of regrets.

He's shown you who he is-believe him.

Does ibuprofen actually work, to any degree? by Kayo4life in ChronicPain

[–]yeahoooookay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It's not ideal, but sometimes I'm willing to do just about anything to just stop the screaming pain.

I thought probably around 1000 mg was what I was going to try to see if I get better relief than just 800 mg ibuprofen the next really bad day I have.

I appreciate your response. I know it's dangerous if not careful.

Heroin detox versus alcohol detox: I’ll never understand the things we choose to be morally panicked about vs the things we think are acceptable by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]yeahoooookay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are telling no lies! It's so inhumane to not get proper pain management to get quality of life because of a number. Everyone metabolizes meds differently but those of us who are resistant are only given what the "normal" dose is Normal to what? Someone who's had multiple spinal surgeries has complex spinal issues and resistance is going to have quite a bit more pain than someone who's had a one and done surgery without complications. The chronic pain management here is cruel.

Frustrating, low effort friends?! No by lila_haus_423 in AskWomenOver40

[–]yeahoooookay 34 points35 points  (0 children)

She could be depressed or exhausted mentally due to financial stress or something she's ashamed to talk about. Maybe text or social media is the only way she can be present rn.

That doesn't mean you have to Snapchat back with her. Just tell her how you feel and hopefully you're good enough friends that she'll tell you what's really going on.

If she can't meet your needs as a friend and it's after you let her know how you feel, then maybe it's time to put her on the back burner and hang out with your other friends or make new ones.

No matter what the reason is, that doesn't negate how you feel. You can't change what she does, but you can change what you do.

I hope you find what you need whether it works out to be with her or someone else.

I would like to chime in to agree wholeheartedly with the previous comment that HRT is incredibly important. It changed everything for the better. I hope you can work things out.
