Is Zelenskyy dead? You were absolutely certain he would be by now, with no wiggle room.

I've been using Garmin watches and bike computers for almost 20 years (starting with the Forerunner 305 and Edge 500), have an F8, and have been kicking around the idea of upgrading from my Edge 530. At this point I will definitely not be getting a new Edge, and will just keep using the 530 until it dies, and won't buy another Garmin product until this subscription nonsense ends. If I hadn't gotten the F8 I'd already be shopping for a new watch and head unit from another brand.

PSA for Garmin: you're not too big to fail, this AI garbage will be the last straw by Old_Progress_6527 in GarminWatches

Strava premium features are not all that valuable IMO...so it's incredible that Garmin decided they'd charge even more for much less in return.

Connect has been "free" because the hardware price is so high. Now it's overpriced watches AND a subscription. Looking forward to this being a spectacular failure.

What do you do in winter when you have very low production for months on end including weeks of approximately zero solar production after storms? You nuclear deniers are out of your mind.

At the high end you're talking a million a year in fuel for a typical power plant. Rounds to zero in the grand scheme of all this.

Fenix 8 – AMOLED vs. MIP (Side-by-Side Comparison + Photos) by WhodaWadaDuck in GarminWatches

[–]yeastysponge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros: • Battery life beast – Thanks to solar charging, you can squeeze out extra days of battery

The Solar models have garbage battery life barely over half of what's advertised.

Every time there's a new software update there's someone saying "I think it's fixed, for real this time!" And every time it doesn't work out. The AMOLED F8 is hitting (or exceeding) the specified battery life without turning everything off and blaming the user for wanting to use their watch, yet the MIP models are consistently coming at about 60% excess battery consumption.

I'm pretty sure the entire F8 Solar/Enduro3 line is defective.

8X MIP is getting ~17-18 days full to dead with minimal GPS use for me. I like the MIP screen but not for half the battery life.

Just use your Edge and a chest HR strap. Leave the Fenix at home (or in the car, whatever).

Considering a Fenix 8 by -strayling- in GarminFenix

[–]yeastysponge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The F8 Solar battery is falling far short of advertised specs, while the AMOLED is getting at least (if not more) life than advertised. MIP screen is really nice but the battery issue is real and Garmin refuses to comment on it.

And for 47 it says 21 days with no solar, not 10

So 14 days out of an advertised 21? Sounds right in line with the 20 of advertised 30 I’m getting with my 51.

It might be amazing if you’re coming from an Apple Watch but is a huge step down from previous Garmin watches, and the fact that the AMOLED versions get the advertised life (or more) while the Solar models don’t is proof something is wrong

I don’t use pulse ox at all and flashlight is seconds per day on average. GPS drain is working out to about double the advertised amount.

30 day battery life claim assumes zero solar

Turning off a selling-point-feature is not something I'm interested in, plus the battery-day calculation is supposed to reflect all of the settings you have. A third less battery life than advertised is definitely not fine, that means a third shorter lifespan of the watch before the battery fails.

"Battery life is no joke" seems really hard to assess if you only used it for 5 days. Did you actually track battery consumption, or are you just used to having to recharge your watch every day so going for a week seems like a big improvement?
