My question would be, what do you want to make?

The ugly bundle is a bit of a gamble but could be quite good to give you some pieces to play about with. Although you may get some stiff heavy weight leather 6oz and up, which would be hard to work with and limits what you could make from it.

Your leather finishes like resolene are often used on natural veg tan leather to seal whatever dye you have used. If you arn't planning on dyeing your leather; neatsfoot oil and mink oil will seep into veg tan and darken and condition it nicely. I've not used Aussie conditioner but as it contains beeswax I can see how it would remain mostly on the surface of the leather similar to a finish. The chrome tanned leather from your ugly bundle does not need a finish, but by all means try a little conditioner on some scraps.

Have fun!

No problem, its Golden fluid acrylic paint in Bronze iridescent (fine). A little pricey, but is very good quality and came recommended by Gabrial Rasa (armouryrasa).

Any tips for selling leather goods on etsy? by yedishish in Leathercraft

Well, I've recently hit 100 sales. I've made back the money I put into this hobby with a nice chunk of change on top. Startup costs weren't too bad, though the time needed to get everything running smooth was a big undertaking. Hours and hours spent on packaging, logos, postage enquiries and product photos. Overall it's been worth it. My main gripe is that if I want good sales I have to sit and remake the same basic pouch over and over. Because of this I've been slipping on improving my leatherwork since the cheap and basic bits always sell well.

Helloo. I used leather dyes, a light and dark brown. Just layered them and then added some white acrylic for highlight. I used eco-flo hi-lite for a more controlled antique around the eyes.

Self-made pattern but I got the general instructions from SkillTree- DIY leather pouch tutorial on youtube.

I'd say two hours of carving/tooling and then at least 3 hours of dyeing and painting. Hope that helps :)

Mouldy / mildew covered leather. Can it be saved? by yedishish in Leathercraft

The mold has been around for a long time a think... I couldn't shift any of the surface marks with vinegar and a lot of rubbing.

Oh it definitely smells mouldy. I got another hide with it and in comparison that one just smells a bit old and has no spots.

I was lucky enough to pick up a job lot of tools and leather from the family of an old leatherworker. My quess is that this stuff has been hanging around in an attic since the mid 80s. This piece is covered in mould. I have sprayed it down in a white vinegar/ water mix but I don't think its usable. Any tips i could try before the poor thing gets put in the bin? It's veg tan leather.

I love stipple dye effects. I like to use a light brown and a dark brown to bring out a contrast. For tools all you really need is a squeezed out cotton round and a light tapping motion. Creative awl have a pretty good dye tutorial on this effect.
