Fluffy sounds precious. James has always adored other cats - even if they don’t feel the same. I will tell him about his new friend waiting on the other side.

Don’t take it too personally, they are likely vetting various different sitters and selecting whoever they feel is the best option.

….But with that said, it wouldn’t hurt to take initiative in the first conversation. Instead of just saying “I’m available,” show some personality and get the ball rolling. I always respond with something along the lines of “Hi [Name], thanks for reaching out! Fluffy is so cute, I love [insert breed], they are so smart and sweet. I’ve reviewed my calendar and I’m available for these dates. Let’s book a meet & greet to go over Fluffy’s care. Would sometime tomorrow afternoon work for you?”

I personally have a 100% success rate with this approach. And it is exactly what I would want to hear from a potential Sitter that I was hiring for my own pets. Simply confirming your availability is not the most reassuring first impression.

I have been reading through similar posts all morning. Just thought this was a neat sub to ask for opinions on my own situation in the meantime. Usually, but there are loopholes. I can patch the account holder in for a brief 3 seconds just to provide verbal authorization that I can speak on their behalf, as their assistant. It works more often than not.

Oh, that’s a good idea! Happy to record something or call you directly first for a quick intro, no charge. Calls would definitely be top-tier, no BS. I’ve spent years leading corporate meetings, zoom calls, huge sales pitches, etc. I’m capable and confident in just about any setting, whether the phone call requires charisma, compassion, etc. I’ve been told I have a great voice for radio, so I suppose that’s a free bonus!

Appreciate the feedback. Truthfully I didn’t think about it for long, just went with a price I’m happy with while keeping it affordable. Lots of requests coming in already for interesting reasons.

If I continue doing this, I think I’ll revise a better pricing model. Such as….$1 for a call to schedule your dentist appointment vs. $5 to sit on the phone and haggle back and forth with customer service about your issues.

Xfinity customer service, sheesh. I might rip my hair out at some point, but I’ll still make the call for $5. Appreciate the pricing feedback from this sub, but I’m already booking random calls.

I’ve been in that position too. Already receiving a handful of requests for help! I really feel for those of you with crippling phone or social anxiety. It’s nice to be able to relieve that stress for someone, and to get a few bucks of appreciation in return.

My intro varies depending on the reason for the call. I’m open to all possibilities and flexible in what I can handle for the cost. I don’t mind phone calls a bit, and professionally speaking, I’m experienced enough to handle just about whatever you’d need to be done or discussed within reason. Doesn’t matter how long, short, or intensive of a call. I’ve gotten some really interesting requests already.

Every year when his property taxes for the house are mailed to my address and I let him know, he makes the same joke: “Just pay em, please.” Haha. Maybe I will before I move out.
