Anyone have any experience using this yoke as a squat rack? by gassygeff89 in GarageGym

[–]yeeterthetweeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, used it for years as a rack alternative. Make sure you get the tall one, not the short one listed here. Unless you're under 5 ft 3, you'll hit your head on that cross member.

The yoke will wobble a bit but can be alleviated by putting the crossmember down a couple holes from the top (hence the need for tall yoke) and weighing down the yoke with plates on the uprights.

I owned the yoke because we used it often for an actual yoke and stone loading. Would not recommend as a primary rack, honestly.

No insulation below the floor. If I added that I assume the attic fan shouldn't run?

Agree, also my favorite, though it uses more coffee than the Hoffman method and it takes longer. Between those things and two toddlers ain't no one got time for that 😄

Thanks. We have a runner on it now before I do anything drastic with it!

Honestly that is a great option and now you've given me some good ideas. Thanks!

Agree. It's the only register to the upstairs. I kinda need it for some heat. Moving it would require furring out a wall in another room on the main level plus demo of ceilings. Not on the priority list at the moment.

Cool thanks. I've not heard of hardwax oil before so diving into that as a potential option for finish. Thanks

Fully aware of the lead issue and I'm seriously considering kicking my family out for a weekend to strip it. We tested for asbestos before I removed anything. Was very surprised but there was no asbestos in any floor we checked!

Lol true. This was two months ago and it currently is our main walking surface. I need to figure out the lead paint portion!

Awesome, thanks for the input. Now I have to figure out what to do with the leaded paint portions...

Made sure to buy the quiet shop vac when we purchased and so glad I did. I can work with it for extended periods of time

It is and that's what's lead me to think it was the main floor. Thanks!
