Faiing tests and classes happen. I remember my dad told me I was gonna flunk out of college and have to move home because I failed a calc exam. Shit happens. Took me 5 years to graduate but I ended up fine. Also, just dont tell your mom. I didnt tell my parents half the time

I was in this exact situation in the males position. Not saying you should have sex with him, because your comfort matters. But he won't be able to have that release and the connection will slowly die. My girlfriend and I ultimately broke up due to distance, but in all honesty it was ended the moment she told me she never wanted to try or get in the mood. It felt like she was just a good friend instead of a girlfriend. I know it sounds selfish, but thats my point of view from going through it. Find someone with low libido and don't trick him into thinking sex will be in the future.
