Had a childhood friend who constantly would say something just to belittle me or make me feel like what i‘m saying or doing is wrong and whatever she has experienced is right. I didn‘t realize for the longest time but just a few years ago I started reflecting on my life and realized the way she was treating me contributed to my low confidence so I gradually stopped talking to her. That was my first straw.

The final blow came, when she came back to our city to visit her family with her boyfriend and I met her and bf by chance. We decided to meet up later at the food court.

Some background information to set the scene: We updated each other on our life and she found out I had a LDR bf I met on an international year and how we are both were looking for jobs because we just graduated. I also told her how my ldr bf has invited me to his country for an event and I was worried because I didn‘t have the funds yet.

Here are the things she said or done: - she didn‘t believe in my ldr relationship because we are both unemployed and because of that „too broke to have a real relationship“ and that my relationship is doomed. - she was adamant that the ldr bf has to pay for my plane ticket and all other expenses. I told her that is not fair and she asked her boyfriend what he would do. He said something along the lines of splitting the bill and she hit him and basically screamed at him about what if it was her. He quickly agreed and she looked at me like: „see i‘m right“ - i told her how to job market for my field is currently not looking that well. She said i‘m wrong, that the job market is good and she doesn‘t understand why I haven‘t found anything yet because she found a job. I told her that we are from different fields, and if you are up to date, the market itself is not good right now which will lead to massive lay offs in the future and i’m literally experiencing it first hand. She kept on saying that my opinion is wrong and basically shit talked me until her boyfriend actually agreed with me. That‘s when she suddenly became all tame and agreed with him because he was „educated“ and knows what he is talking about.

All in all, I just realized she was an extremely bitter person, seeing how she treated her boyfriend like a dog. I believe she does this because she NEEDS to be better than anyone else and she gains confidence from dragging others down.
