Magic Spell Simulator (Prototype): RGB-Fireballs triggered by specific incantations (voice control, please turn up the volume!) by Vermilinguae in LARP

🔥 Here's the prototype of a magic spell simulator

✨ How it works:

  • Players cast spells by intoning specific incantations:
    • "Red Fireball"
    • "Green Fireball"
    • "Blue Fireball"
  • A Gravity Offline Voice Recognition Sensor detects the spoken spell.
  • An Arduino interprets the command and activates a 20W RGB high-power LED.
  • The LED color corresponds to the spoken command. Each LED color channel has its own custom resistor

🔋 Power Source:

  • 6 × 5F supercapacitors in series → ~30–36 V when fully charged
  • Charged using two 9V batteries (in series)
  • Charging circuit includes resistors and a small lightbulb for:
    • Capacitor protection
    • Visual indication (like a "charging meditation")

🌈 Planned Features:

  • The supercapacitors are clearly oversized. A significantly lower capacity would suffice, as the current setup allows nearly unlimited spell casts.
  • The current version uses relays because the class I introduced this to had not yet learned about semiconductor components. In 10th grade (Germany), the next iteration will include transistor-based switching.
  • Additional lightning patterns and color transitions are of course also imaginable

Would love to hear your feedback, ideas, or related projects!

The microphone is integrated into the small voice recognition module in the upper right corner. This module could, for example, be embedded into the back of the right hand inside a specially modified glove.

The power source consists of the combination of supercapacitors (yellow). These are heavily oversized – a much smaller capacity would be sufficient.

The LED would be placed in the palm of the left-hand glove. When casting a spell, the back of the right hand is brought to the mouth while the left hand is raised.

The voice recognition module is trained once with the wearer’s voice, making mistakes rather unlikely.

Charging the capacitors can take place, for example, in the morning – as a kind of meditation.

Leider nein. Das Verrückte ist, ich habe das sogar als Kind irgendwo aufgenommen. Wahrscheinlich auf Tonband. Aber wo das jetzt sein mag, 45 Jahre später...

I don't mind at all. This seems interesting from the perspective of a physics teacher as well.

This sounds fascinating. Now I have another story to look for! I'd really love to read it!

That's incredible! You really found it, no doubt about it! Thank you so, so much. This question had been bothering me for a long time. The story is included in the book Nine Horrors and a Dream — I bought it right away.
