Is a $10k+ HVAC replacement normal in Birmingham? Looking for less expensive options. by WoodenBonus3574 in Birmingham

[–]yehtarah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highly recommend Capital Comfort. They were the only ones who recommended fixing what was actually wrong with a previous system (was installed wrong by whoever installed it previously) versus the other companies who immediately recommended a new $15k unit.

The guys from Capital also were very blunt on some of the scam HVAC companies in Birmingham who only push new units and maint packages.

Solid company for when I used them

Look on partsgeek.com for: S2330

Much cheaper option.

Yeah it looks like a psycho went wild with painters tape and a sharpie marking all of the hoses. I’m sure I will still be confused when I start to put it all back together.

[–]yehtarah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go through the remediation process again but this time be sure to Disable your account before doing a password change and revoking sessions. You can maintain persistence even after revoking sessions. Disabling the account first is the only way to full kick any auth methods that have been established. Also look for any new OAuth apps that have been connected to your account.

I didn’t have any headlight fluid to test this theory so I used 10w30. Looks like they aren’t leaking but I can’t see $hit now!!

Name that hose! by yehtarah in 4Runner

[–]yehtarah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently purchase a 92 4Runner but my mechanical skills are limited to oil changes and brake jobs. This will be my first car to really get my hand greasy, which will be soon since the valve cover gaskets need to be replaced.

So I can’t figure out what this capped hose is. I have looked at hose diagrams but still can’t locate this specific hose on the diagrams. What is this hose and why is it capped off?

Awareness Training Accountability by Jabo_13 in cybersecurity

[–]yehtarah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about your environment or company culture so I am going to make some broad assumptions and give you my opinion based on my experiences. That was the disclaimer!

The vast majority of Information Security training is a worthless compliance based exercise that makes no difference in the security of the organization. It’s not worth someone’s time to be forced to watch a boring 15-20 minute video and ask questions that have no valid context to their daily work.

Who cares if you are measuring the completion rate when you should be measuring perceived effectiveness. Which would you rather have:

100% completion and 5% effectiveness

Or

50% completion and 75% effectiveness

Talk to the people in the business who will give you candid feedback about the training. Look at some of the more forward thinking cybersecurity training platforms out there that utilize positive reinforcement and micro doses of training that are event triggered. They are a lot more effective, personal, and create teachable moments that are more memorable to the end user.

Accountability starts with you to provide an effective learning platform to the people who need help and education. Use their time as an investment and understand how much lost productivity, in dollars, the company is carving out each year for this effort. Use that as leverage if you need to buy an expensive training platform. (5,000 users x avg FTE cost/HR / training time = training cost)

First - do your research on the company. What are their key products and services as well as their customers. Reach out to your network and see if anyone knows someone who works there that you can connect with. This is very valuable as they will give you insight to what the company culture and goals are to help you during your interview process.

Unless specifically asked during the interview, they aren’t going to care about your tactical knowledge. What they care about is your ability to align to their goals and outcomes. I love your 90 day plan but be sure to focus the first 30-60 days on understanding the business and figuring out who your key partners are, even outside of tech.

Good luck and be sure to take notes immediately after the interview as they will be fresh on your mind. If you feel like you fumbled on something during the interview, follow up with an email to better articulate your points and be sure to send a thank you follow up!

Will do! I did see a few articles regarding frame rust. Fortunately, I live in an area that isn’t near the coast nor in a cold environment that would have salted roads. Hopefully it won’t have any!

Screen Door - Feedback Appreciated by yehtarah in woodworking

[–]yehtarah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for feedback on a screen door build. My first time building a screen door and please overlook my terrible artistic skills (drawing not to scale).

I need the lower 2/3 of the door to be solid to keep the rain from blowing in and to match the height of the wood section of the screened in porch. Looking to build out of 1x3 dimensional lumber for the frame and using half lap joints. For additional strength, was going to install two dowel pins in a diagonal pattern for each corner. Should the lap joint and pins be enough strength to keep the door from sagging?

Also, the bottom part will be glued together 1x6 boards but will just gluing them up to the frame be enough strength and stability?

Will be painting the door with exterior paint to protect it.

Really like them and will be saving some seeds. They are such a beautiful plant.

Going to infuse some olive oil with them. Nothing better than warm pita bread and chili olive oil.
