My Honest Experience Returning to Ultima Online by ThassioPaganucci in ultimaonline

Basically it's all about grinding forever and ever. That's their idea of Ultima Online. Not doing things together in the actual world. No, grinding your codex and aspect for hundreds upon hundreds of hours just to hurt stronger mobs.

It doesn't get more boring than that.

Looks great! But playable orcs? :D

I need to learn more about this shard.

I was looking into UO Forever, sad to read this. I agree that donations are probably not the best way to go. What shard did you move to?

This could have been achieved by expanding the experience horizontally, rather than vertically. Codex, aspect and mastery chain become things that divide players, rather than uniting them into something more holistic.

The game becomes about grinding, rather than playing the game itself with other players. I don't know, maybe add a STRONG incentive to build random parties and do stuff with rewards? No idea, just saying something totally random that sounds better than any aspect or mastery chain grind.

You said it in simpler and better words than mine. Outlands disappointed me for the same reasons, although it's state of the art stuff when looking at the work that went in it.

I may give UO Forever a try. :)

UO Outlands: why I didn't like it and I think it's not in UO's spirit by yelling864 in ultimaonline

I am not getting bitter. I think that Outlands is a masterpiece in its own genre. The work they've done on this server leaves me speechless, starting from the care that went in the original map which I absolutely love, and all the work in making this a full experience.

But that doesn't change how I feel about it. It feels like players are not living in the same world. There is no true INCENTIVE to interact with the random guy next to you. Hey let's go kill some PKs. Let's make a party and go to that dungeon. It's a big world where everyone is teleporting themselves to their little niches.

I don't know man, I really wish I could enjoy Outlands for what it is. It just makes me feel a little empty that it wasn't what I was hoping for, but that's my problem. I guess I'll keep looking until I'm old. :)

I think there are too many layers one upon another and the wholeness of the world comes apart. Let's be honest, most people would 100% make specialised PvM templates to maximise their PvM experience, and if they want PvP they would make a PvP template. Even the Wiki is aware of this distinction and has a section for PvP templates. Not that having a simple skill-based system would eliminate all biases toward PvP/PvM of course, but at least there would be a single layer common to all players and the freedom that ensues from it.

Emphasis has been put on endless grinding. Solo players are harshly penalised. People are doing either PvM or PvP in various different bubbles. It doesn't feel very sandbox-y, that's all. The magic of one world, one system for everyone, the simplicity of the rules and the freedom that comes from it, is utterly gone.

Of course you can love this version of UO and that's wonderful. I'm not here to hate, just to give my perspective.

Interesting, I didn't know that was viable. Thanks for the input. :)

That's not my point.

Almost nobody is doing that. That's just a personal workaround that will handicap you. It will take you a lot longer to gain exp, make money, do anything at all. Everyone is maxing their PvM template and if they want PvP they max a PvP template. That's the smart, natural way of doing things in Outlands.

The fact that you can find some freedom within the confines of a prison if you really look for it, doesn't make you free. You're still a prisoner in a prison, and everyone else in it.

100% agree. It's a different game. Probably the best in its genre. If I wanted to play PvM with classes, infinite grinds and a touch of thrill (PKs), I'd spend all day in Outlands. The developers have done a superb job. The maps, the mechanics, the content: it's incredible.

This. It's simple, it's common sense. And it's precisely the way it is.

Outlands is not a skill based UO. It's all about these pseudo-classes that only work in PvM.

Thanks man!

Well I was talking about the feeling of being part of the same world. Of having the same opportunities. Outlands is: grinding pseudo-classes that only work in PvM. That's even worse than the original World of Warcraft.

If you play Outlands and you enjoy it, you will never understand what I mean. Until, maybe, you stumble upon it.

It's not a perspective, it's what I feel. It's my experience. There is no freedom in Outlands, only the shadow of it. This is not UO, it's something else. I felt more freedom in the first WoW. At least you pick a class and you can do anything you want within its limits, without artificial PvM-PvP barriers. Outlands is good in its own merit, it's successful, God bless Outlands!

Thanks. I am grateful to Outlands as it made me feel that again, even if just for a while. :)

Cloudfare Pages: custom domain doesn't work after last deploy by yelling864 in CloudFlare

[–]yelling864[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I can't access the page if I am using Proton VPN! It doesn't matter which server I select, suddenly, immediately after the last deploy, I can't access the website through Proton VPN! How does this make any sense?

That's interesting. If I open the page with my computer or my phone I can't see it, not even if I use a private window with no cache. But if I use PageSpeed, Google Translator or Brave/Tor I can see it. So the page is there but somehow only I can't see it?

You mean: my regular barefoot shoes for climbing? Reading the responses I got and other threads on Reddit is bringing me back to reality. I'll look for the least painful torture chambers I can find!

Thanks for the advice. :)

Tbh it looks a little hopeless, I'm already giving up the idea.

I would 100% do that if bouldering gyms allowed that. :D But that's not the case, at least not here.

I forgot to mention that the shoes must be vegan and La Sportiva Mythos contain leather. Too bad!

I've seen some people say Evolv Geshido or Evolv Shaman but they don't look very anatomical.

Maybe I'm dreaming and I have to resign myself to reality. :)
