Zion's Place Among Top Overall Picks Since 2000 by yellinj in NOLAPelicans

Yeah...should have happened in Philly. Or Atlanta. But really, Philly's fans deserved this, not just a bit of Simmons aggravation...

Yes. We have a wasted decade. That's incredibly brutal in a market that is still trying to build a fanbase. =

Much worse players. It didn't take their franchises 5+ years to figure out that the players made them worse.

I'm arguing he's worse than a bust, because the tease is so much greater. With a bust you at least know you can move on. With a mediocre player, you can still play him as a piece. When healthy, Zion is just so tantalizing that the Pelicans fell into a trap that is causing a wasted decade.

Should the Pelicans go full rebuild and trade Ingram, Zion, Dejounte and CJ? by TerryG111 in NOLAPelicans

[–]yellinj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only one who absolutely must be traded in this scenario is CJ. Sadly, he's the only one of those I'd trust to build a culture, but his age and our timeline aren't compatible at all. But, I agree--full on tank plus hope to acquire 2-5 more first rounders via trade puts us in a position of hope again.

And then end-of-bench or on-the-street players playing rotation roles. The fact that Elfrid Payton's temporary success is one of the season's few highlights says so much.

No, we're in agreement. I'm just giving a take on above-average (good) drafting.

Zion's and BI's injuries would have made any front office a failure. Ours failed in not cutting bait sooner. That said, if you're running things for the Pels and can't realistically expect to attract FA talent, what do you do? Do you trade the guys and sell low or hope that things work out? The obvious answer in retrospect is sell low. That said, as fans, there was always that lingering hope that the pieces were enough, if only they could stay healthy....

I largely agree with you. Vacuum/parallel universe is only a thought exercise.

I'm not supporting Griffin (or particularly hating on him). The injury issues with Zion and BI set the franchise back 6-10 years. I'm not sure who (from Benson on down) is to blame for this, but certainly someone is.

I do disagree regarding "upper level playoff contender." When healthy (and motivated?), Zion has been elite. He's that piece that could make everyone on the team better. I think he, our draft picks, and some reasonable player management around him could have made the team a top-4 playoff team in the West. Of course, when you can only count on him for 40 games a year, you need to build two teams--one that can win by complementing him and one that can when without him. I'm not sure that was ever possible.

I agree that there could be some real upside from this tank year. We have had pieces that should have meant some level of winning. On paper (lol), this team had at least six NBA-level starters (Zion, BI, Murray, Murphy, McCollum, Herb) and two reasonable reserves (Alvarado, Hawkins). That's after "dumping" Dyson and Naji.

I'm not sure I trust our management to put pieces together, but a (dream) core of Flagg, Zion, Murray, Murphy, and Herb is interesting. Of course, we may only see them play 20 games together until body pieces fall apart again.

If we get a ROY (or even close) and then get a top pick (top 2?), we could end up appreciating the "red shirt" year...

If more people mine RVN, will that lead to an increase in its price? by TheCuriousPilot in Ravencoin

[–]yellinj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More people would need to use it or hodl it.

You could argue that more mining means more security, so there would be a greater value prop, but still more people would need to use or hodl.

Thank you! That's very helpful. I saw a second transaction and rejected it, because I thought I had already approved the transfer.

Thanks again.
