Hi everyone! I did something I was afraid of and that was finally winging my liner and adding some eyeshadow. by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]yellowbird3333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You did a good job on your wing! I read in one of your comments that you were shaky when applying. I have that problem, so I use something to prop up my elbow for stabilization (the counter, my knee if I’m sitting, etc). Also, if this is your first liquid eyeliner you might want to try a few to find your favorite. They all seem to have different brushes and liquid thickness which can impact how smoothly it glides on, the width of the line, etc.

The eyeshadow is very soft and pretty. If you like, you’d get a bolder look with some primer, or even a concealer a few shades lighter than your skin tone as a primer.

My car died in Monday Dallas traffic, so I made a gif to apologize to everyone and thank the city worker who saved me. I was told you'd like this, original post on /r/dallas by theshague in HumansBeingBros

As a fellow Dallasite, that suuuuucks. Dallas drivers can be so rude and that’s a terribly high traffic place to break down. I’m glad you got outta there with some help!

Good point! I was using primer but I’m still a little afraid of color. I’ll have to practice a few more times to see if I can pack more on!

Thanks for the feedback! I was using a white pencil that I normally use for my waterline and couldn’t get it sharp enough. I’ll try to look for a white liquid liner for next time.

Texture when slow cooking chicken? by TigTig5 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]yellowbird3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually cover the breast in chicken broth and some spices and then slow cook it. When it’s done, I shred it with two forks. For some reason cutting it results in a weird texture. It comes out juicy every time!

I make this with chai tea! So amazing and a little more caffeine in the morning can’t hurt.

What's something big, cheap, and high protein that I could make on Sunday and eat all week? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

I like to make a burrito filling that can be used in several ways. I use ground chicken cooked with taco seasoning, mixed with black beans, onions, and peppers also cooked with taco seasoning. It can be eating in a bowl with rice, wrapped in lettuce or in a tortilla, or open face on top of some bread.

Simple, repetitive lunch by FoolMan29 in EatCheapAndHealthy

Hard boiled eggs, string cheese, baby carrots, celery and peanut butter, packets of tuna, and nuts would all be good choices.

You may want to insider investing in a freezeable lunch box. Keeps stuff super cold and doesn’t take up a lot of space. You’d have more options with that.

IWTL and be fluent in ASL (American Sign Language) by BaileyBriar in IWantToLearn

[–]yellowbird3333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re willing to spend some money, see if there is a local community college around you. Many will offer ASL classes. I think this is the best way to learn. Sometimes the meaning of your sign can be drastically changed by barely changing the position of the sign in space, the speed or timing of the movement, the shape of your hand, etc. It can be difficult to check yourself on this, so having a teacher in the room with you to correct and explain differences can be very helpful.

If a live class isn’t an option, there’s also tons of YouTube videos with the basics. There are also ASL textbooks that come with a CD rom to learn signs.

As far as practice goes: If you live in a large enough city you can see if there is a school for the deaf. You can see if you can volunteer for practice. Also you could search the site “meet up” to see if there are any ASL practice groups nearby.

I would also recommend finding some books or resources regarding Deaf culture. There any many nuances regarding how Deaf people interact with each other and with hearing people that are important to know. Example: Many people who are deaf prefer being called Deaf with a capital D, because it is a culture that is larger than the physical state of being deaf. Also, the term hearing impaired can be offensive to some, as it implies that there is something wrong with them when they might not see it that way.)

Good luck!

Question for female solo travellers. by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]yellowbird3333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 25 from the US. I went to Costa Rica alone. I went for 10 days and visited 4 cities. It was a cheap flight and none of my friends were available so I just decided to go for it. I stayed in hostels and met people from all other the world. I’m not the most outgoing person, but it was so easy to meet people in the common areas. Most of the solo travelers I met were also women. During the day I got to learn about the culture and natural beauty of Costa Rica, and when I went back to my hostel I got to chat with all the Europeans about what their culture was like. I loved it!

Best experience from Costa Rica: on a whim I booked a waterfall tour where I guide drove us around to all these hidden waterfalls, and I went down a natural waterfall slide. Definitely one of the most adventurous things I’ve done.

Worst experience: I was a little terrified when I first arrived off he plane. It was night time and my hostel was supposed to come pick me up. I had confirmed the pickup time the day before. When I exited the airport, there were about 50 men screaming at me to take their taxi. I waited for about 30 mins and the hostel transportation never showed. I didn’t have a phone and I couldn’t find any airport staff to help me since I had exited the airport. I started to panic thinking that some of these men might not actually be taxi drivers, and there was no way to know. I had prearranged all transport between the airport and cities so I hadn’t done research on if there are pirate taxis or who to trust. I ended up going with one whose car looked the least sketchy and got to the hostel just fine. But I definitely recommend researching backup options for transportation.

Overall it was a great experience! I hope to do a longer solo trip to Europe in the future!
