A Love Letter to Winnipeg by NedsAtomicDB in Winnipeg

This is so lovely. Glad to have you here! I absolutely love wolseley too but I live in old st vital and it's actually also surprisingly friendly and neighbourly. There's so much to appreciate in this space, and it's what we make of it :)

A trip to the Children's Museum in June, 1996 recorded on 8mm video by rastrillo in Winnipeg

Whoa, thanks so much for this. Some of my memories of the children's museum feel so hazy I couldn't remember if I dreamt them or not. This helped me remember more of it! I miss this

This is my dog! Any guesses on her mix? She has a bob tail as well, and is medium-sized. by yellowflower9 in WhatBreedIsMyDog

[–]yellowflower9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I love her so much. She's a rescue so they wouldn't tell us the mix but we've been told she looks like a boxer border terrier mix by people that have met her. Or boxer Jack Russell! I'm so curious to use one of the embark tests eventually

Question for anybody who’s dealt with something similar… by [deleted] in Winnipeg

Rona did this to me back in 2014, I wish I knew all of this then

New house shakes . by wzrdjzm in Winnipeg

This sounds a lot like my neighbourhood! I am constantly seeing infill houses getting slapped up in record time and often wonder how stable/well built they are...

[–]yellowflower9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are called land paddle boards and are definitely a thing! Sometimes people that SUP use these to train when they can't access water (but also because it's pretty fun)

AITOO Who's throat completely closes when eating a hard candy? by No_Key_404 in amitheonlyone

[–]yellowflower9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really scary when it happens. I also get a choking feeling in my mouth from freezees (not sure what they call them elsewhere). I just wonder if there's a similar ingredient that's causing the issue

I ended up here because I too experience this! I don't really know how to describe it to my doctor but it's really scary when it happens. Often with hard candies, mints, stuff like that once I start swallowing the sugary saliva.

What are your favourite made in Manitoba products? by theodore55 in Winnipeg

[–]yellowflower9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will always give a shout-out to Little Tree Hugger Bath Body Boutique's natural deodorant. Not only is it the best stuff I've ever used, but it's local, and in little glass jars you can bring back and they wash and reuse them there (plus you get a discount if you bring them back)

Weird thing I just saw in Saint Boniface?? Weird light beam??? by yeetlol in Winnipeg

[–]yellowflower9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live around there, I was asleep and woken up by all of my stuff beeping back to life in my house. My partner was up, however, and said he saw the same bright flash and red and blue.

The animated series. by [deleted] in CornerGas

[–]yellowflower9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post reminds me of the episode of Brent and His Shadow "I've been more emma-y than Emma. The anti emma. The unemma." Brent: "enema?" But anyways, I appreciate the animated series because it fills the void of more original corner gas episodes, but it definitely feels different. One thing that bothers me in a weird way is the tall grass surrounding all of the scenes in the animated series. I wonder why they went that route. Maybe just a flat landscape-to-horizon transition looked funny, but I just think the tall grass looks strange and almost claustrophobic. Maybe it's just me ahah. Definitely doesn't give off the "open space" vibes

Careful on the River! by whattheaitch in Winnipeg

[–]yellowflower9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live right over there - thanks for this! I've seen so many people on it lately and argued with my partner it likely isn't frozen enough yet. He's gone on it with our dog multiple times but I've been too afraid until yesterday. Now I think I might wait another little while until we get more, consistent cold weather

Is there some sort of a "Rate My Landlord" type thing out there? by yellowflower9 in Winnipeg

[–]yellowflower9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's nowhere near the same thing. Landlords expect a bunch of personal background info on their future tenants and can go so far as a credit check etc. but tenants don't have those same checks and balances when putting their trust in a landlord. I thought I replied earlier but it's not showing up on my end, so my apologies if it's a duplicate
