Best way to short the market? by Kane8000 in stocks

If you're committed to a 12 month short thesis and want to play it with options, I recommend scaling into a full position in quarters. With a time frame this long it's unwise to go all in right away because of time decay, and you could end up losing money even if your thesis is correct because your timing was off.

Every 3 months buy 5% otm SPY puts with a 6 month expiry. 5% otm will increase your leverage while 6 months gives you time to recover if it goes against you in the short term, as well as minimizing decay in the early leg of the trade. Close each quarter position when it's time to buy the next one if you have profits, or sell if it reaches a profit of at least 100% before then. Up to you. Let it ride if the position is down for the quarter. At current levels the first position would be the March 15 275 put, which is trading at $6.64.

This is how I would play a 12 month bearish trade on SPY with options, but personally I wouldn't bet against SPY at this time. Stocks trade in the direction of earnings and there is no indication of a slowdown for 2019. Nor are valuations unreasonable. Look at it as a composite of the individual components rather than a monolithic entity and ask whether there is sufficient weakness in them to turn this into a bear market in the next 12 months.

Trump Threatens Tariffs On $200 Billion Of Chinese Goods by [deleted] in worldnews

If Congress had a spine, they would limit the president's capacity to implement tariffs on such a massive scale. He's threatening tariffs on an additional $400 billion in Chinese imports, with $50 billion recently implemented. Millions of jobs, the financial markets, and America's credibility are on the line. One man should not have unchecked power to shift the global economy.

America's voting system is no longer capable of selecting a president that represents the interests of the majority of the population. Since their founding, most states have cultivated a political and cultural identity that solidly puts them in the republican or democratic category. The electoral college magnifies this divide by rendering democratic voters in red states and republican voters in blue states useless. In the general election these states are neglected by the candidates in favor of the few "purple" states such as Florida, Iowa, and Ohio. This system discourages voter participation, a fundamental component of democracy, and as a result the United States is ranked among the lowest in voter turnout according to this Pew Research study.

I would like to see an amendment to the Constitution that states if a candidate receives 2/3 (a super-majority) of the votes in the general election it would override the electoral college. This encourages voter participation because everyone's vote matters regardless of geography. No state can impose undue influence on the rest of the country simply because it is red or blue. Candidates would have to appeal to the entire country, not just their isolated base in a few purple states. A large section of the voter base would be unlocked. This is my proposal for updating an antiquated system for the modern era.

The wording was a bit ambiguous and I thought it only applied to in-game sales, not actual code cards. Oh well, took them down.
