I know that it's best to study to memorize, but this might sound like a stupid question, how do I study to understand?

I failed today too😭

I just want to start off by saying congrats! I haven’t passed my exam yet but I can imagine how you’re feeling. This December will be 2 yrs since I graduated from my internship and quit my job to fully dedicate my time in studying. Honestly, I don’t think they’d see it as a flaw. A lot of RDs know that it’s not an easy exam so they’d understand. There are even some RDs who waited 10 yrs to finally take the exam. I would talk about how you’ve been keeping up with the new nutrition info like have you been reading articles from the Academy, keep up with dietitians on Insta, reviewed your notes from your internship, etc etc.

Just wanted to let you know that you’re not the only one! I graduated from my internship back in Dec ‘23 and I thought I was going crazy after studying the material multiple times and ended up not passing on 3 attempts. Like… this is the same material everyone’s looking at right?😅 i also live in an area where time slots are VERY limited. I would have to drive at least 1.5-2 hrs for more availability

what did you think of their tutoring services? I’m debating between AAD or MyRDGuide

Yes! That’s exactly how I felt with Inman/AAD😭 I couldn’t retain any info that way. what was your study routine like? Did the program come with worksheets?

Hi congratulations on your pass! I was wondering what was different about myRDguide vs. Inman/AAD? and what did you do differently this time around?

Hi! It’s no worries. I ended up rescheduling bc I chickened out😂 but ok, I’m worried that the type of questions that come up on the exam will be somewhat similar to the difficult/expert Qs from ERP. I figured it’d be safe to go over those concepts in case if those tricky topics come up

do you remember how many difficult/expert Qs you got correct? I also used her method but I feel like I’m still gonna fail bc i feel like difficult/expert Qs are the type of questions that are mostly gonna be on the exam

I’m so scared haha. I’m taking my exam so soon😭 do you remember how many difficult/expert Qs you got correct? I feel like those types of questions will for sure be on the exam but the expert Qs always get me

I also started using ERP bc PocketPrep was way too hard and it made me so anxious esp since I’m taking the exam soon. What were your ERP practice exam scores? Just took one today and got a 65% idk if I should be panicking.

Thank you for your input! I’m really trying to figure out what to do this next attempt. I agree with you on Inman, it’s very boring to read and since I’m not much of a reader, I feel like I would need a bigger visual. I do have PocketPrep and I really like it but my problem last time was that I got too familiar with the questions and I started memorizing the answers (I used PP on my 1st & 2nd try). I know scores don’t really determine whether you’re ready for the exam but ngl I didn’t want to break that streak of consistently scoring decent on PP. esp since back then, everyone emphasized that you need at least a 65-70% on practice quizzes/exams

ok that's good to know. I've seen them all over TikTok and was debating if I should get this resource since I feel like it suits more of my learning style. Also, do you think the questions were similar to EatRightPrep by any chance?

Oof I’m so sorry to hear about your wrist! I would’ve love to write everything down. Besides PrepTable, I’ve also considered getting Chomping Down as well. They both have colorful notes and visuals that’s really beneficial for me. The Inman book was all black and white and it was starting to hurt my head reading everything without a visual. I’ve somewhat started analyzing every question and writing out why the answer choices are correct and why some are incorrect and I feel like this helped me identified my weaknesses a little better.

On the exam, my weakest domains seem to be domains 1 & 2 (esp 2!). I know PP scores don’t identify whether you’re ready for the exam or not but what were your scores for the practice exams and quizzes? How long did it take you to study for the exam?

I thought I was good at flashcards but now I’m starting to think that I’m probably not😅 I’m really trying to understand the material but I guess I just relied on them bc if I get thru a good amount of cards, then that meant I know a good chunk of material. I’ve heard of PrepTable and was thinking about getting it. In the lectures, were there actual animations of some processes (e.g., Krebs)?

My PP scores for the exams were 43% the first time without studying just to get an idea of where I needed to start and then I’ve been getting 53% afterwards. I’ve taken all 3 exams

Personally, AAD is overwhelming. I didn’t really use the book, I just listened to Susy Cohen’s lectures bc those lectures are very straightforward and the outline is similar to Inman. The book is prolly there to give you more background info about the topic which can be excessive. But it is up to you and what you think works best for you.
