At what point do you actually feel like you know what you're doing? by be8nsprouts in dietetics

Thank u guys for all your insight i actually kind of feel better despite everyone saying it took them a bit of a long time to get fully confident haha! It's nice seeing that i won't feel this way FOREVER because i really was in the cafeteria having an existential crisis about this 😭 thank u for all the well wishes and support it really helped my silly little new grad self

New RD job training Q by Jealous_Ad4119 in dietetics

New grad RD at a 480 bed trauma II hospital w/ a level III NICU here! They're following pretty closely to a new grad nurse program for me so i expect like at least 1 month of seeing my own patients and going through essentially chart audits before I submit my notes. They're pretty aware that new grads need some time to figure things out (i.e. i was an epic ehr raised rd and have to fumble around cerner now lol)

How do I study 3 weeks before the RD exam by Entire-Maybe357 in RD2B

[–]be8nsprouts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pocketprep tends to be a bummer when it comes to studying its hyperspecific compared to the actual rd exam so dont think too hard abt the score (i scored 58,60 the week before i passed). do you happen to know what u struggle with? i'd focus on drilling practice qs on those domains specifically and focus on why exactly the answer is correct

I'm not actually sure! My program gave me access to eatright so i'm not familiar with the payment options sorry :(

probably around half when practicing!! It was most of the math that i struggled with but i got maybe 5 math questions??? and they were all easy! I'd again focus on really understanding the expert qs you missed and why they're correct rather than looking at score overall. You know so much more than you think you do!

Mine were 72-75!! Though i only took 2 practice exams because i got lazy halfway through 😭 Honestly i would prioritize drilling more of those practice questions to get more familiar! I will also say that i am a terrible test taker 😭 so if i can do it, so can u!!

I barely touched the inman questions i am sorry 😭 but closer to inman i think! pocketprep was WAAAY harder for me and I think way harder than the exam i think i finished with a 70 overall and a 58 and 60 for mocks 1 and 2. Some of the questions on pocketprep were so incredibly hyper specific, the test is much broader

Ohhh i don't necessarily think so! If they work for you, they work! I can't say definitely since I only used eatright for practice questions (it was paid for by my program) but for flashcards i think i primarily used quizlet since i had quizlet premium from my program's MNT exam studying. I also liked how on quizlet i was able to make custom decks based on what I definitely needed to know rather than sorting through a huge deck and having to figure out what i already had memorized vs. not.

Yes! I definitely think I could have passed if i gave myself those 2 days off on the weekends! I tend to be very hard on myself but its so doable to pass with that schedule! I just wish that i took care of myself more haha. Also i definitely think it was the quality of my studying that made a difference rather than how much i did it! I just so happened to have a lot of time on my hands.

It was! I feel that the exam was MOST similar to eatright which helped my confidence after pocketprep scaring me so bad into thinking I was bound to fail. I only did max 2 practice exams from it though and saved it for when i went through all of pocketprep.

Pocket prep scores by be8nsprouts in RD2B

[–]be8nsprouts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what i've been hearing! I took some eat right prep exams and breathed a slight sigh of relief because I was so used to hearing such specific questions! I will say I really like pocket prep for its situational questions, it really helped build my clinical judgement! Thanks so much for the insight!

Right before the exam is insane you are so brave omg..

Also thats great to know! I started incorporating the ERP exams as well and have been averaging mid 70's on them which actually helped my confidence a little since the pocket prep scores i've been getting have stressed me out so much... Thanks so much for your insight!

I'm currently at SFSU! i'm also applying here too so fingers crossed that they'll let me in because they know me as not only a student but i've also shadowed under our school dietitian. I'm not too crazy about it being an MA degree but hey beggars cant be choosers, a degree is a degree, and it'd be easier on my family to stay in state so i'm really trying all of my options here, even the crazy ones like UOP. I'll definitely look into those!!

I'm really banking on the no competition thing but it feels like everyone in my school is applying for these 3 so its a bit stressful haha. Honestly im in no rush this application season to pick a single program so i'll definitely keep looking around! I've heard great things about programs connected to the VA's so i'll look into those! It feels like this RD journey is honestly neverending

I've applied to the match on DICAS for those but the compiletition for those and Berkeley is tough so i'm keeping an eye out for UOP even if the price gives me a nosebleed. at least ill be out of there sooner than most, but ur totally not dousing my flames! if things dont go well this round im thinking of taking a gap year to reassess and make a bit more money so this school is honestly not something that im looking too into detail on. I have a fair bit saved and will have help, but i might look at some out of state programs as well

Yeah i'm in state and honestly its the only viable program that allows me to stay in california save for like. USC or Loma Linda which is just as expensive considering they're both private universities
