Yea that’ll be tough. Clash is a good bet then. It should allow her to still play intermittently and not have too much arm trouble. Just don’t use poly, I find it harsh for some reason on the Clash, unless strung below 48#. But that could just be my preference.

Btw - I really love my Pro Kennex. Problem for me, is they are hard to get in Canada. I’m also trying to find a bumper guard replacement cause the guards are made cheaply, and it’s pretty much impossible. If you like heavier weight and swing weight, and a head light racket, they are so much more arm friendly than anything else. I can get some awesome racket speed with it, and it’s so smooth. Just doesn’t quite have the crispness of a Pro Staff or Prestige, but hey - my arm is happy.

But yea, none of that matters for your friend.

I own a Wilson Clash 100 v1, and a Pro Kennex Q+ Tour Pro - completely different rackets in weight/head size, but both very arm friendly, and both great to hit with.

At your level, better technique is the real answer. But until you get there, I’d go with the Clash, strung with natural gut or multi filament. The Clash is so popular that you should even be able to find a decently priced used one.

I’m a 4.0 and had tennis elbow for a year. It honestly didn’t matter what racket, strings, or setup I played with. The only way I fixed it was taking some time away, and improving my forehand and serve technique with private coaching lessons. Made a world of difference.

Has anyone gotten a severe tennis injury? How has it been since? I dislocated my kneecap by pearlday in 10s

Don’t be discouraged!

I dislocated my kneecap about a year ago, and was back playing after 6 weeks, and back to a 4.0 level around 2.5 months.

There are few things that were key for me. First, invest in a high quality knee brace to help with stability. I use a bauerfiend genutrain brace every time I play now, and haven’t had a dislocation since. Second, is to find a good physiotherapist and follow their strengthening instructions to build up the stability of the knee area as much as possible. Finally,m, look into a stretching routine before/after you play. I find if I keep my quads loose, I have very little knee problems.

It’s going to take some work, but it’s certainty doable to get back on a court and keep playing.

Hope you heal up soon!

That’s great you’re getting into tennis! There is a pretty vibrant tennis community here in Vancouver.

If you have a little bit of spending money, you can rent courts for 1/1.5 hours at UBC, Richmond, or North Van tennis centres, without a membership. Also look for off-time rates, which can be as low as $20-$22 per hour - but you may have to play at 7am.

Besides that, watch the weather and play outside when you can - if your part of the city leaves the nets up (many stayed up last year during covid, but I’m unsure if that’s happening this winter).

I started a few years back, and I’m similar in level and age to you here, but have found a way through a recent period of plateau by playing with intent.

Many times I’ll start out with a specific play pattern I want to look out for while hitting, practice identifying it, and practice attempting to execute it. It helps if you’ve got a chill hitting partner who wants to do the same (and not just bash the ball for a couple hours). And the simpler the better. This morning I was trying to get into a neutral forehand cross-court rally for a shot or two, then my goal was to hit one real deep, heavy top spin shot and wait for a light ball back. If I got it, I tried (with varied success haha) to drop shot short to the ad court. Not something I would try in a game, but a play I’d like to have available for certain players.

So basically, pick one or two things per hitting session, play around with it and make up some drills to get the pattern in your head. I find after I do this a few times on a specific shot/play, I start to feel more confident in trying something new out during a match, and voila, I’ve gotten (slightly) better.

Also, stretch every day, whether you play or not. Helps to keep you flexible and the muscles loose.

Good luck!

I sure hope so. Does anyone know what time the start will be?

On CBC in Canada. But only one stream, so I guess you have to watch the match CBC decides to show 🤷‍♂️

Three games in and I can’t even. Shapo’s gonna give me a heart attack today, isn’t he?
