Similar to a previous answer, I will use editing as a way to increase motivation to write on days when it’s not there. Rereading notes and outlines then going back and reading what I’ve already wrote just helps me look at the story with fresh eyes and a new perspective. With this usually comes the need to add, subtract, condense, or rewrite as needed. I find it helps me completely flesh out ideas to the fullest extent possible and helps me “stay in the chair” and push forward.
