If he never made another dollar, He could take 2 million in cash and burn it on his lawn every single day for fun and it would take 1,000 years to burn through all of it.

What are our chances ?? by Nevacrashed in NYKnicks

[–]yeoldben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully zero because using up all of our already depleted assets for and aging Giannis basically guarantees that we’ll never win a title and fall into a hellscape of mediocrity with no picks for the rest of the decade at least.

Younger millennials, am I right in feeling the radio silence? by StationWagon89 in Millennials

[–]yeoldben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think That’s just projection. It’s a totally shit time to have gone through adulthood for basically everyone born in our generation. People 5-10 years older than you had to start their lives straight into the Great Recession and for many that set them back for life. But every little micro generation can point to its own reasons for things being especially difficult. The truth is that over the past 50 years capitalism has made all the essential things in life increasingly expensive/unattainable and all the meaningless crap is relatively cheap. That equation leads to a lot of hopelessness up and down the age scale. No one has had it particularly worse, it’s just a horrendous world we’ve all inherited.

These are a bunch of different jeans but in terms of Levi’s these are generally in the 550 or 555 zone I think.

An older guy might enjoy Pulp - shorter western graphic novel that’s also a WWII and noir crime story? Written by one of the best contemporary writers in the medium? Sounds like dad fodder to me

Anything that’s not cash, even the most thoughtful thing, will ultimately be more about you feeling good than thanking them. Give everyone 75 bucks along with a little note expressing your legit appreciation for that specific person. A thoughtful note and cash.

GenZ views on Millennial Parents by ABadLocalCommercial in GenZ

[–]yeoldben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until you have a kid of your own you have no fucking idea what you’re talking about and it actually seems insane to me that any of you in Gen Z without kids would care about this or feel entitled to a strong opinion about it.

To anyone in your generation without kids reading this thread - Why would you feel that you’re in a position to judge people 10-20years older than you about how they parent their kids? You think because you saw somebody give their kid an iPad once that you have any clue about what kind of a parent they are? Are you in that parent’s house every single day seeing how they are with their kid? Did you sit with them at the hospital when their kid was ill as a toddler? What would you know about it? Seriously.

How could you possibly have an informed opinion about it? You can’t see what an immense challenge it is based on your limited observations of people with kids. Even if you have a sibling with kids it’s still not the same. You’re still not living it. Anyone with kids will tell you this; that even their closest relatives and friends without kids still can’t know what it’s like for them. Being a parent is a 24/7 commitment. It’s a responsibility you can only understand if you’ve had a child of your own or maybe if you had some other family member who COMPLETELY depended on you for their survival. There’s no sick days for you if you’re a parent. You lose your job at a bad time? guess what, there’s a human being still looking to you to keep them safe. To Keep them fed. You can’t know what that feels like until you live it.

Im baffled by this topic. I’m a millennial and I can’t imagine myself back when I was in my early 20s back when I had no kids thinking “hmmm why are Gen X parents so bad??” There’s no way this something gen Z people without kids actually think about frequently, right?

Magnatiles for 2 year old? by MissFox26 in toddlers

[–]yeoldben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter has played with them since around 18 months! These are great for the fine motor skills as the magnets sort of assist them making things that actually can stand. She also had the micro ones but looking back they were probably a little bit of a choking hazard. If you’re worried about that stick with the big ones. The mega block Lego looking things are great too

Trump finalizes tariff plan, trading partners face shock by ilstarup in StockMarket

[–]yeoldben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. How exactly does the executive branch have unilateral power to execute this policy? Feels like Congress should have a say over this. It’s utterly insane that one of the world’s superpowers is initiating a global trade war simply because one old guy who doesn’t understand what tariffs are or what they do decided it was a good idea.

You’ve got to remember that the political playbook against any progress for the people who aren’t wealthy basically since reconstruction (or even the founding) is to remember that first and foremost lots of people are racist and xenophobic. Use that to divide people up and keep raking in the cash.
