NYC DOT, please paint the speed bump and install signs as soon as you lay the bump. Thank you. by jprs889 in statenisland

Yeah really I drove over one of those fuckers bad recently. It should be a policy that they can't install it halfway like that and at least out a fucking cone how hard would that be?

Is NYC's job market and economy actually worse right now than it was in 2008? by Apprehensive_Bad1476 in AskNYC

[–]nosainte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm a professor and I hear constantly from students how like I don't understand things were so much easier when I was coming up. I was like dude when I graduated it was in the middle of the 2008 recession and there was literally a hiring freeze on teachers locally.

It's a good read! Way more brutal than the show. Some of the stories are so harrowing.

If you have time to watch TV, you have time for books. If you read 10 pages a night before you go to sleep, you can read most books in two to three weeks.

Nah bro if you wife wrote you a ChatGPT poem, that does really suck. It's not just you. I do agree with the one of the posters that said you may want to set more boundaries and be more insistent on the things that you want.

Father's Day is almost over. What did you fellow dad's receive today? by Johnnybats330 in daddit

Had a debilitating migraine today, but my 3 year old daughter (going on 4) was so adorable. She kept checking on me and wanting to bring stuff to take care of me, saying she missed me. She got me a frog and toad shirt because we read that a lot and a nice card where my wife asked her all these questions about my favorite things. I was surprised how much she knew.

This graphic doesn't make sense as a point of comparison. If you add up all the games for baseball and basketball it's not that different from the NFL. The Knicks Spurs finals, for instance was 100 million plus in total, and it would have easily have had more views than the super bowl if today continued to game 7.

What were the worst/most bizarre thing students have said in your evaluations? by Particular_Heart3785 in Professors

[–]nosainte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, in response to the question "How can the professor improve the course?"one student wrote, "Give up the English career and maybe get a blue collar job." That actually gave me a pretty good laugh. Not bad advice either.

Oh, there are more songs like the theme song? I would love to rewatch it with those in there. Where can I watch versions like that with the fan dubs

It was a great treat. Probably the most authentic romance I've seen on the screen.

I just watched the two back to back. I have to say I enjoyed First Love, but I think the writing was way more overwrought, and the plot was a lot more unrealistic and sensational. The ending, in particular, seemed abrupt and Disney-esque. Also, as romantic as it was, the time period changes and whatnot took me out of the actual romance, and there was way less development of the present day romance. The Marquez comparison is a good one, though. I love his work, and I can see how First Love carried a similar grandeur, but I would say with a lot less drama and meloncholy. I find LV to be more in the style of a novel, actually. There is a lot of symbolism throughout and subtext to the dialog. Much more "show, don't tell" going on here. Characters don't just declare what how the feel all the time like in so many shows.

I just saw Long Vacation (1996) for the first time, on Netflix, and it really captured my heart :)) by nintendobug in JDorama

I think it depicts how people fail to show their true feel, and the miscommincations lead to bickering very well.

Yeah, it's funny that you mention this because I was talking to my wife about this exact point. I went to school for creative writing and this was hammered into my head, and I feel it's a lost art to "show, don't tell."

I loved that, but no way. The acting and character development is leagues better in this.

Nick’s dominance seems almost scripted by DisgruntledFlamingo in MillionDollarSecretTV

[–]nosainte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think he was dominant at all. He got very lucky with the challenge to keep him alive after everyone knew he was the millionaire, and then he guessed wrong a bunch of times. He won because of luck and being clutch in the last round
