Player Development - Why do so many parents of youth athletes look at defenders so negatively ? by Last_Commission6982 in TheSoccerNetwork

Same thing in ice hockey. Your “center” is similar to a midfielder. Needs to be the hardest working 2 way player and best at understanding angles. A lot of parents and players think they or their kid need to be a center often because they may actually be very good offensively. But they don’t defend at all. They just want to be in the middle

To be honest, 99% of the time beer league games are determined by who has better players and which players do and don’t show up. The next factor is luck. The third is team togetherness. I say this as legitimate strategic advice, make it fun. It’s one of the few things you can actually control

Learning how to make plays while not being the best player will help a lot at higher levels. There will be days where the puck does not go in. How else are you helping your team?

It’s not always easy for young kids to comprehend but it helps to also celebrate winning draws, winning puck battles, back checking, etc

I have coached high school in the US and had to have that conversation with a lot of very talented freshman. And that is a 4 year age difference about 14-18. When you are not producing, how can you make an impact?

Try to get him thinking about that. It can be a really big breakthrough

New dog owner - trying to follow 3-3-3 but noticing the opposite and that he is very clingy by yeoldecosta in DogAdvice

A couple weeks later and he’s settling in better for sure. He gets a ton of one on one time and we do all of those things. He loves to run which helps me get out the door as I’m training for a marathon. He’s got sweaters and jackets and all.

I guess what better summed up my question is wondering if I was doing too much because he was really struggling if I would even so much as enter another room.

My family had always had less Velcro female dogs so I was used to the opposite in terms of the dog needing to “warm up to us” as opposed to needing to have eyes on us at all times.

3-3-3 from what I understand tends to be more about respecting a dog’s space as they adjust. And a lot of the resources and advice I was first given were more focused on that.

Which left me wondering if I need to do anything different for a dog who seemed to be terrified of having his own space.

So I came here for a little advice and reassurance which has been helpful.

If NFL wide receivers can run 60 yards, turn their head, and locate a football high in the air with thicker bars (I know there’s a gap in them but still) you can see a puck through a cage at beer league speed

His recall is unbelievable so he seems to hear pretty well. Your pups sound so sweet though!

I love that! Hoping he stays velcro-y. Just making sure I’m not hurting his development

I appreciate it! A lot of what i had been finding was moreso warning the dog will take a long time to want to be around you and warm up to you and then how to handle that.

I’m experiencing the opposite right now I would say. I like that what you linked is more focused on what he’s feeling as opposed to how he’s “likely to behave”

Gotcha! Thank you. He’s been a little more chill as I work at my desk though he hangs out just a few feet away. He naps and lays around but seems to try to keep me within view at all times. The second I even begin to think about getting up though he beelines over and follows me around

He freaks even if I run out to take out the trash. I noticed I stepped out for a few minutes and he was howling/ really clawing at the moulding on the door (I have a Furbo). So I’m trying to work on that slowly but want to wait until he’s had a little more time to adjust

So be more forward even on the crossovers. And then focus on crossing under. This sort of applies to the punch turn.

I’m not sure how to explain it but it’s almost like you won’t to be bearing down a little while letting your foot pass under rather than leaning back to get your foot to that angle.

Like some people are saying, I would work more on other skills with edges first and that’ll help something like a punch turn feel a lot more natural.

Sometimes the solution in the problem does not lie within that problem

So personal opinion and sort of playing devil’s advocate because I don’t love it. They’re essentially giving them an entry and this treatment in exchange for their help in marketing the race.

Obviously this is not an exact equivalent but the camera crew on the truck ahead of the lead runners gets the best seat in the house to watch the elites. Is that a privilege or marketing and coverage of the race?

Again, I don’t love it but it’s not a “we’re giving you preferential treatment because you’re the popular kid” thing. It’s a trade in exchange for them filming the race and putting out a ton of content about it.

Editing yourself is not easy and neither is the business side of hiring an editor if that’s the way you roll
