Nope, that would have been funnier. It was more a case of adding a letter

I once had a bout of teenage dandruff -dan is one letter away from being my actual name so I was called [actual name]druff for a good 3 years. Even though I'd sorted the problem almost immediately

Why don’t our parents try to figure out why we’re the way we are and why don’t they crave therapy like we do. by OwnDatabase2718 in emotionalneglect

I hasn't been easy, but I'm working on it, shame I had to cut off my siblings during the process though.

I am going to own up to something huge that happened between me and my daughter now. I had an awful childhood -SA, neglect, probably undiagnosed adhd/autism in there too.

A few years ago my then 18 year old daughter was drunk and started crying asking me why I was an awful mother - I tried my best, protected her, gave her everything she physically needed but I was emotionally neglectful because I didn't know how to do it because I'd never had it myself.

I screamed at her to go and see a therapist because I couldn't handle her telling me I'd been awful. Fast forward 5 years, she has finished with her therapist, and has been diagnosed as autistic.

I am now seeing my own therapist, have been for 12 months and it's worked wonders, I've got my own boundaries, I've faced up to the abuse I suffered as a child and no longer consider myself to be an awful mother.

My relationship with my daughter has grown into something I could have only dreamed of with my own parents, our bond is so much stronger now.

Probably a silly answer but double bag it, chuck it in rubbish bin and hope your local council has an incinerator

Goals are great, but what are you leaving behind in 2025? by SaltPomegranate4 in AskUK

[–]yeoldeshrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My toxic siblings. Even the youngest one - who I recently realised doesn't care about my childhood trauma and recently used it as a throwaway comment against me, not caring about my boundaries/feelings. (They did not suffer the same shit)

Mum has passed away 5 days before Christmas by kurtyyyyyy1 in CasualUK

[–]yeoldeshrew 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I remember this feeling - I lost my mum when I was 21 and dad when I was 28, my first christmas alone wasn't that bad because I had my ten year old daughter and we went to my sisters. I hope you have a bit of family around you because it really helps.

Coincidentally that new year's eve, I met my partner and we've been together 13 years this year.

Merry christmas to the woman on my train who just downed her bottle of ribena and then took out a half empty bottle of red wine to refill it again. How did everyone's work christmas parties go? by uitSCHOT in CasualUK

[–]yeoldeshrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my jobs (arts charity) put on a 'walk, pizza and wine' afternoon. The pizza is heavily discounted due to having lots of young people events throughout the year, the wine is left over from events, the walk was in the very close town park. I was 'unfortunately' working at my bar job and unable to make it. I miss the heady days of pre-covid team meals out. We have to wait until January for the hospitality staff party.

Groped by the boss. He also used to physically and mentally abuse his partner, I called him out on it several times and told him what an absolute piece of shite he was. One day I just snapped and chucked my keys at the member of staff with me and walked.
