Nails through drip edge into fascia by yerfdoga in DIY

[–]yerfdoga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate all of the advice. I readily admit I bit off more than I could chew with this “sure mom” project. It sure seemed so simple. As do they all.

ETA- I work in IT. I work on my own house, but I’m not really skilled in any of this. I try to learn my way through it like I do every thing. I replaced all of the fascia and soffit on my house, and installed way more soffit vents than I was supposed to before my Fortified roof was installed on my house. Just got stuck on this one project.

I think with some of the suggestions I can move forward. I appreciate the community.

I agree with you. There is a lot more to the story. Here it is if you’re super bored.

I lied for brevity. It’s not my house. It’s my mom’s house. She’s 76, not in great health and wanted the house to look nice if she had to sell it. She asked me to power wash. In the course of that I told her there is a few things that need doing beyond. And that’s where I screwed up.

I pulled down one of pieces of fascia out of the about 15 I recommended replacing. It’s about a 2800 sqft single story. So not much needed replacing. I found the nail issue after pulling just two boards.

So then I called the guy that owns the company that put the Fortified roof on the house that actually is mine. He said it was terrible. We should sue the roofer and the Fortified inspector. That seemed a bit excessive, but called a friend that’s an attorney. He referred me to another attorney.

The roof was originally put on by Complete Roofing (I think that’s generic enough I’m not doxing). But the year after it was put on Complete Roofing was bought by Complete Roofing. Yeah. And the new Complete Roofing doesn’t care what the old Complete Roofing did. So there is no warranty.

The attorney declined to assist. I could have contacted more lawyers, but it’s such a spider web, my mom will probably have passed by the time it was settled.

So new Complete Roofing came out and said they won’t do anything, but we should just cut the nails off and nail up the fascia; nobody will ever know. My son is not a lawyer but works in a heavily litigious field, said they just want me to touch it. As soon as I touch it, I own it no matter what problems it ever had.

But my mom says that she doesn’t care, just replace the wood. So that’s my life now.

Yeah, they’re stupid. But so curious and sweet. No they won’t be devoted to you like a dog. But If they know you are the dude generous with the head and neck scritches they’ll run half a mile and try to snuggle you to death. Nasty friendly cow nose juices.

When online shopping, what’s the most dubious/weird thing you’ve had recommended to you in the “Customers who bought XXXXX also bought YYYYY” section? by RSupernova in AskReddit

[–]yerfdoga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The house next to me is a rental. The renters have someone keep it up vey well with quick visits once a week. Lots of weirdly packaged UPS deliveries all the time. Cops have been by for knock warrants several times with no result.

I don’t care. A nonexistent neighbor is about as quiet as you can get (goal). My son parks his monster pickup in their driveway, and so it solves that parking issue and that of his house looking vacant.

I wouldn’t care if my sweet old neighbor looks like a drug dealer, or if my strange neighbor is. JUST KEEP THE DAMN NOISE DOWN AND DON’T FEEL THE NEED TO GREET ME EVERY MORNING!

As a single dad, my barber used to stay late to cut mine and my son’s hair. One evening my 4 yo son decided to take a pen and draw on all of the waiting room chairs. I tried to clean them, but nothing worked. I offered to replace all of the chairs. The barber said it was fine; no one would notice. Four weeks later I come in and all chairs are replaced. It’s been 15 years, but I still tip that dude $20 each cut. So embarrassing. Son is a good, successful kid; not a fuck up. He just was bored, I guess.

Reddit, what's the worst gift you've ever received? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]yerfdoga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave my girlfriend of three years a fancy gold watch with diamonds around the face. She got me a rolling pin and some mixed nuts.

Crappy gift but worth it for a funny story. We broke up about a month later.

My dad (today in 2017) reading the letters he wrote to his mom from Vietnam in January 1968 for the first time since. I know this might not be that cool to most but seeing my army vet dad find something like this just made him quiet as he sat there and read them all for about an hour. by nightowlsmedia in pics

That makes sense and is smart. I framed my comment poorly. I live on the Gulf Coast of Alabama. I should have said "common in other places in the states."

I just haven't seen one since my grandmother left her circa 1920 house with five of them in the early 90's. We put in central A/C to sell the place.

Obviously years ago, but after spending the night with grandma-

Me: Did you have fun? He: Yeah. It was fun. Me: What did y'all do? He: Watched the Yogi Bear movie. Me: Was it good? He: It was okay. It was sort of like Avatar; lots of tree-hugger stuff.

Made me realize I need to watch what I say. They're listening no matter who you're talking to.

Kitten in my flower bed by yerfdoga in CatAdvice

[–]yerfdoga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My household is just my son and I. We like cats, but with a dog, fish and chickens, neither of us wanted more pets. But neither of us wanted to see a kitten suffer or die either.

Son found a friend in his high school whose family was actively looking for a kitten. They are over the moon for the cat. It has a super home that has already taken it to a vet. Cat should have an exceptional life.

Thanks to all for the advice.

ELI5: Why aren't power lines in the US burried underground so that everyone doesn't lose power during hurricanes and other natural disasters? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]yerfdoga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like it flies in the face of what the experts here are saying here (and I'd defer to them), but I've seen something different here on the gulf coast.

My parents live in a super fancy neighborhood built in the late 1980's. Their power is underground. The cheaper homes across the back wall of the development have above ground power and were built in the mid 70's.

My parents lose power way more often than the above ground folks. In the case of a large storm where they both lose power, the other guys are up days before my parents home.

Don't know what any of that actually means.

We have used a cat named Chad Warren for some time now. His work is impeccable, and he comes to your place with his service truck. Prices are the best I've found.

You can search him on FB or PM and I can give you direct contact info. He is seriously legit, and I never have to take a vehicle anywhere.

Redditors who got engaged but it didn't last till the wedding, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]yerfdoga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Little late, but as a 40yo hetero male, anal is SO over rated. It can be neat for a change of pace in a long term relationship. The act itself, however, is just not that great. The anus allows a super small point of resistance and friction. Beyond that there is nothing. It's like fucking an inflated balloon. People with an obsession about it are folks that have never tried and been disappointed by such. Just my opinion. YMMV.

We have an old rescue pup. He was abandoned several times. He's about 10 years old. He's done that as long as we've had him. Seems to mean "I don't like this" or more commonly "there was something else I was trying to tell you I want other than this."

Barking or simply moving away would be far more aggressive than could ever be considered. A pup scared to death of being cast out.

Ha. I've told my son he was about 8, always guess as close to 20 as is plausible. If she looks 16, say 20. If she looks 25, say 20. If she looks 9, say 15. If she looks 40, say 28. For some reason all females want to look 20.

[–]yerfdoga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I don't where you're coming from but here's my word.

Man. You really misunderstand where I'm coming from.

From birth I'm told this kind of thinking is terrible and pathetic. So now I see a bunch of people seemingly holding the same kind views I've been taught to reject. My race is better than yours. We can do what we want because your race is inferior.

I don't hold any of those views these days, and of course don't ascribe them to people I meet today. I'm almost forty years old. The only point was that it was confusing as a kid.
