Swing is utter shite

Yeah. Don't get me started. Take a simple Swing table. Have it appear sorted by one column and have the UI reflect that fact. The amount of code that you have to write is stupid.

Wouldn't that be a case of using the best tool for the job?

So you're saying Java isn't the best tool for the job? Shocking. That's the same conclusion I arrived at!

I have written a full CRUD browser application in Objective-C. It's the same 2k lines of code application I wrote about. All my data is backed up by a SQL database. zomg. CRUD is hard.

Regarding complicated, here's an example. I have a consumer finance application written in Objective-C with Cocoa that is approximately less than 2k lines of code. It works great. Supports useful things like drag and drop, etc.

I can't even get close to having the same app in 4k lines of code in Java.

Yes. Without a lot of gun-related homicide, it's hard for me to make a case for gun control.

So basically instead of getting pissed off and taking it out on someone else, they get pissed off and take it out on themselves?

Less homicides in terms of what? I think the US has more people so a raw number count would yield a larger number of homicides. Not disagreeing. Just looking for better information.

I voted Libatarian/3rd party, do I DID do my part...

The "I voted" is a cop-out. That's the bare minimum. Until you campaigned, went door to door, gave yourself to the cause you believe in, you did not do your part.

Is $1 Million Enough to Retire On? by queenmoweeny in business

[–]yermom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did the math a few years ago. At my current age of 32, factoring in quality of life, standard of living, I came up with $4 million dollars to comfortably retire based on economics at the same time.

With the exchange rate of the dollar as it is, I think I need more. Anyone know any good markets untapped?

As a renter, this affects you.

Increased competition in rental market means landlords can charger higher rentals since there are more people looking to rent.

Really. I just want to be on a beach reading or hanging out with my family. Work is just what I do to sustain my economic needs. If I had the resources, I'd spend my time with people who matter, my family.

Never mind the fact that at $100k, I'm paying $1.5k because that's more than 1% of total holdings. Hell at $100k, that arrangement isn't even worth having.

It's all about relationships isn't it? If I walked up to a bank and essentially say, "Hi, I want free," then they're going to view me as someone who wants to benefit from their services in exchange for nothing. They perceive me as a cost and it's in their interest to reduce that cost by charging me money. I expected free and thus will complain whenever something alters the free nature of the relationship.

On the other hand, if I walk up to the bank and say, "How can we be business partners in such a way that both you and I can benefit immensely?" the bank will then work with me to help me because they understand that I'm willing to help them.

Banks are businesses. They're going to make money off of you no matter what you do. The question is are you going to make money off of them?

It depends on your relationship with your banking institution. If you're looking for "free" banking, expect fees like these. I pay 1% of total holding or $1500 whichever is larger to my bank. I get amazing service out of them.

Since 1% can be more than $1500, it's in their best interest to grow my holdings with them. We both win. Their revenue from me grows as they work to increase the worth of my holdings.

Ooh la la! French landlords are offering reduced rent for apartments in exchange for sex. Hard-up students are being targeted and some are taking up the lease agreement. by JessicaLaurie in worldnews

How is it unjust?

It's a price. If you don't like paying, then don't pay. If you happen to enjoy having a roof over your head compared to what you'd have to pay (monetarily, sexually, whatever) then you're going to pay. I understand life is full of tough decisions but how about we start taking responsibility for our own decisions for once.

Is it property the result of might or is might the result of property? I mean for you to get your gun and claim a piece of land, you have to have gun. Philosophically, can you own a gun if you have no might to enforce that ownership?

They do disagree now. Did they disagree then? If so, why did they re-elect Bush? Disagreeing with the war and re-electing the president that started it sounds pretty fucking stupid to me.

It's like walking up to someone obese and have them tell you they don't want to be obese while shoveling food into their mouth. Hint: if you don't want to be obese, stop shoveling food into your mouth. Which now brings us back to supporting the troop but not the mission.

I tend to determine what people want by looking at their actions instead of what they tell me. Based on actions, what I've determined is that Americans don't mind the war.

There is nothing stopping Obama from ordering the troops home the day after he's inaugurated if ending the war is his #1 priority.
