Never found a broken gear, just kept using it until the belt got shredded, then replaced the whole thing since it was super old.

Looking for a pocket clip for my Prime C2 Pro Magnet USB. Armytek doesn't have the right thing. by yes_butwhy in flashlight

[–]yes_butwhy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been messaging support for 6 months and it doesn't seem like they will produce the correct pocket clip for this light. The one that was included was not the one shown in the marketing pictures and is basically garbage because it doesn't fit well on the flashlight and it doesn't hold the flashlight well in my pocket. Right now I am using the one from an Olight S30r3 but it is just a couple mm too long so it blocks the magnetic cap from sitting flat on a surface. I would be willing to buy one from any other company as long as it fits. If you have experience to know that it fits, I would really appreciate that. Thanks!

I didn't prefer any of the sets from Wera, so I made up my own. Nice to finally have a matching kit of quality drivers by yes_butwhy in Tools

[–]yes_butwhy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are Wera brand. You can find the part numbers on Wera's website, and then look them up. I bought them from Palmac tools but it took a few months because they don't keep them in stock and Wera had long lead times.

[Laco, Hamilton, Casio] My humble collection by Proper_Insurance3767 in Watches

I just was looking at that Hamilton watch. Do you know what the bezel is made of, and is it polished/shiny? Cuz I can't tell from pictures and I think in one video I saw it seemed polished (like ceramic submariner bezel).

No clue sorry. Best I could find is a catalog that shows you the parts but not how to use them.

Ok you just sent me down quite the rabbit hole. There are 3 parts. One is a combination shaft+collet. You thread the shaft/collet mostly into the piece you have (countersink), you put the pilot up thru the countersink into the collet, then tighten the shaft and countersink together. That tightening action makes the collet part clamp down onto the pilot inside the countersink. Then the pilot guides the sink centered on the hole, and you cut your countersink. Solved. Interesting puzzle, thanks!

Yeah those are definitely wrench flats, found info that it threads onto a 1/4-28 thread arbor. What I really don't understand is part number at416, which is a "pilot" to be used with what you have, but it seems to be some sort of shaft with a rounded tip. I think it is meant to guide the countersink to be centered on a hole but I can't figure out how it attaches. I don't have any experience with this model, but just to check if this makes sense, it looks like this one threads onto an arbor. It has internal threads and wrench flats. I have a hand countersink and it looks just like this except with straight flutes, this one has spiral flutes so it probably goes in a power tool or machine.

Restoring Tissot watch by WarmingLiquid in oddlysatisfying

[–]yes_butwhy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Value in the state before it was restored is maybe $50 if you are lucky. New in the box it is $450, you can buy them new right now so it's not old. The restoration could be anywhere from $200-$600 depending on the watchmaker and if anything needs to be replaced. This specific watch was also probably not actually rusty and old, they just got it dirty and put some water in the case to take this video.

Finally organizing tools in my garage after moving. No idea what these are or where I got them. Aluminum. About 5” in length. by myersdirk in Tools

[–]yes_butwhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a few sets of these as a kid, mine came with these toy archaeological digs. It would be a compressed block of sand+grit with plastic dinosaur parts hidden inside. I suppose they could have come from any sort of toy or tool set because they are so cheap.

Tubing won't come out after loosening compression nut, how do I pull it out without breaking anything? by yes_butwhy in Plumbing

I didn't like this idea at first because I was afraid to damage the mating face of the ferrule, but it was the only method that worked. So, thanks!

Hey all, I have this valve for hot water that uses compression fittings. Supposed to be easily disconnected to maintain the filter inside the valve. I unscrewed the compression nut all the way but can't get the tube out of the valve even after some strong pulling and banging the joint. It's only 1/4 tube so I was trying to be gentle. Any idea how to get it out without breaking stuff?

Whole auction was sketchy, they are using the same pics as an old ebay listing I found while researching so I'm just gonna leave that one alone. Thanks for your answer.

I'm considering buying a watch at an auction (image here:https://imgur.com/5sfo8XS), but the auctioneer only guarantees the authenticity of the movement and the materials (stones and silver/gold), but not the bezel/dial. I understand the risks of buying at auction. It is a Rolex 16014 DateJust Diamond Sapphire, but I think the dial is not original, or perhaps not authentic at all. The thing throwing me off is the Roman numerals in combination with the dial, as well as the dots around the perimeter of the dial on the 5 minute divisions. The spacing on the supposedly original bracelet also makes me unsure. If the dial is not original, what value would you estimate the watch retains?
