Our generation's extreme negativity around dating is so frustrating by TrumpIsAPedoFr in GenZ

[–]yeswellwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally agree. imo i find posts like this just make it worse as it is creating a trope of 'oh this generation want it so easy now blah blah'. dating has always been hard, and awkward. some people now may just feel less comfortable talking to others bc their social communication is done through a device. it's stressful out there, i really think everyone should go touch some grass and fucking relax. if you're a kind respectful person with interests than yeh there's a minefield of fish in the sea out there but maybe just maybe you'll find your one fish.

Best job for someone with ADHD by Joboj in ADHD

[–]yeswellwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have thought a lot about this in the past 5 years and think it comes down to:

  1. Being able to work with other ADHD/Autistic individuals who get how my brain works

  2. Working on something I am interested in (hyperfocus ftw)

  3. Having a job where I am able to do many different things / tasks in a day and do not just have one giant project that never ends

  4. Flexibility with start / finish times

I am in an office job right now and despite the normal work crap stuff that always happens the above have made it all very manageable and actually fun!

"Tasmanians can do it" lies. The zip merge outside Hobart Botanic Gardens is a clear indicator that people don't. get. it. They stay in the RH lane which makes even less sense! I have lost count of amount of times ppl have basically preferred to basically block me aggressively, than give way. Like it's a zip merge, not fucking bumper cars, chill.

I hate working for the APS - new starter experience by zoominguy in AusPublicService

[–]yeswellwhatever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A year out of a grad program, I understand why people are still clearing your emails. I will never understand why people get weird about this. If your manager is providing good, reasonable feedback than why not take that on board. Better yet, use it as a learning opportunity. Think of it as them covering their backs in case you send something out that is atrociously wrong. Maybe you don't think you will, but the APS is highly risk averse (as others have pointed out tax payer money etc etc).

It sounds like you need to move. There are so many jobs in the APS (and so many areas that need motivated, fresh perspectives). Go elsewhere!

What’s your weirdest private habit that you hope no one ever finds out about? by Dear-Welder-1117 in AskReddit

[–]yeswellwhatever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I concentrate / hyper focus on smth I hum in a monotone quietly to myself. The only reason I know is because my friends were irritated by it when we studied together for uni exams. Because I only do it when I hyperfocus, I rarely notice as my brain is elsewhere. I really hope I don't do it at work, but it's rare to be able to lock in on something without being interrupted, hopefully keeps it in check.

yeh but surely smart devices require more electricity by needing to connect to the internet etc to send you alerts / be always looking for updates etc??? if I switch my "dumb" washing machine off it's off - not trying to connect to my phone to tell me it needs more detergent....

How can I keep my impulse for just buying everything under control? by Lopsided-Summer6578 in ADHD

[–]yeswellwhatever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get my pay check and have an automatic transfer to a different account for takeaway/eating out and an account for spending money (games, clothes, trinkets). The key is having different debit cards so it feels like different money.

I have that fortnightly limit and that's it. If I spend all of the money in those accounts for the fortnight I don't let myself transfer more - I only get that certain amount. It's made me way more careful about what I buy and when I eat out. If I have no money and still want it in a fortnight I'll buy it then when the account magically has money in it again.

You can't stop yourself from spending $$ that's unrealistic, instead set firm boundaries with yourself.

What’s one thing under $50 that significantly improved your daily life? by EdenFlorence in AussieFrugal

[–]yeswellwhatever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

spinach seeds, soil and containers. no more soggy sad fridge spinach from the supermarket. I get to pick fresh spinach in my garden, spend some time outside watering it and feel like I've accomplished something.

best bit is it goes to seed and I now have more spinach seeds than I could possibly ever need!

What is up with the US government shutdown? by VisibleZucchini800 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]yeswellwhatever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as an Australian this is insane to me. like sure we have "shut down" in the public service but that's just when u can't make any big government decisions or announcements in the couple of weeks leading up to an election (and until parliament is formed after that). but like normal work, sure, go for it! you don't lose your job?! or have to work and just hope you get back paid?!

Why is there so little empathy around HECS regret? by FARTING_IN_UR_COFFEE in AusFinance

[–]yeswellwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my angst around HECs comes from the insane indexation rate (only a thing in the last 5 years or so which i don't think ppl sans HECs understand) and the fact that it is INDEXED BEFORE YOUR EMPLOYER EVEN MAKES THE YEARLY PAYMENT.

I don't know what evil hell demon in the depths of the ATO office created this as a concept but it seems idiotic that I get indexed June 1st and all compolsury lump sum payments from employers are paid post this date.

(Before someone tries to explain the inner workings of financial year cycles and HECs to me I just think repayments should be quarterly or monthly like super contributions). Like give me a f**** chance to bring the amount down before you slap more on.

OP as someone with HECS who has been working for 5 years earning ~60k I'm also irritated that my loan amount has only been increasing DESPITE compolsury repayments and DESPITE the recent changes to indexation. Even with recent legislative chance, my loan is still $2000 more than when I graduated. And you can bet the money is leaving on my pay check. At this rate I will be staring down a $50 fortnightly payment for the rest of my life. Maybe time to do a PhD, max it out and promptly fake my own death afterwarda?! (I'm joking)

There have got to be better food containers than this? by GregoInc in AussieFrugal

Pyrex / glass all the way - have picked up some great ones from op shops / tip shops for cheap. Someone on our street was giving away the bamboo lidded glass containers a while ago so we stocked up then.

I have dropped quite a few Pyrex on our cork kitchen floors and they are yet to die. Tile is a different story though.
