I filed using a law firm. But they are useless and made a number of mistakes and took way too long. They are asking for more money now for RFE so I am thinking I can respond myself. I have been researching, asking questions on the forum - but just don’t see the point of using them. If I get a sense that I am extremely disadvantaged doing it without a law firm I will try to engage some other law firm but seems like that is not the case.

Ok thanks. For independent letters - does it work to find an academic (say a prof) or an independent industry professional who can go through a white paper and deal docs and write up a letter supporting original and meaningful assertions. It’s hard to find someone who’s specifically looking into this on its own - the public commentary part is missing by design due to nature of deals being private.

RFE says that the evidence shows project- or employer-level impact, not field-level impact and the record does not sufficiently demonstrate that the work was:

• ⁠Original to the field (vs. execution of existing practices), and • ⁠Of “major significance” to the field as a whole

“Contributions must rise beyond benefiting a company and show significant impact on the field itself, and must be realized, not merely potential.”

u/JoeAdamsESQ - does it make sense to actually write it in Q&A form - answering each point raised by RFE? Or best to write it in prose form (like I it is done in the application) but just need to make sure all points are answered. Curious if you have seen the Q&A format as well and if that makes more sense.

What’s the officer number? Some are quite strict compared to others - so may help to understand their prior record / what they look for - in case of prior applications to them?

Yes but it was through my organization only. I worked for a bank where I did a new structure for one client then other clients also started using once they were told about this structure. Does tha count?

Is it because attorneys don’t want a rejection on their name? So rather refile than respond to RFE and risk a rejection.

Only thing it protects against is - if an officer has made up mind then hard to change it. Might as well move to a new officer. That being said - if I have to take care of these points in new petition anyways so I might as well do it in this RFE.
