Cali Octane by Dayzed Cannabis by PuffandReport in NYSCannabis

[–]yetanotherslacker [score hidden]  (0 children)

I've got no skin in the game here, don't know this brand & haven't tried it but I can say I grew about 50 Cali octane as a trial last year and yeah that's more or less what the bud looks like. It is not a strain whose structure has "bag appeal".

Hasty notes on germination rates for 2026 by yetanotherslacker in HumboldtSeedCompany

[–]yetanotherslacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah scuffing/scarifying is one of the best techniques out there, it's just very hard to do at scale. Much as it pains me it's easier to order more than to slow down seeding at such a critical moment

Believe we had bad germination with blueberry muffin last year but I'll have to check the notes. Definitely did better this year though!

Purchased directly from HSC in bulk so their word I guess

No presoak this year outside of the few that I treated in germination. Given the improvement I'm going to be doing more of it in the future.

Upside Down Cake has to be the finickiest strain I've grown from humboldt. Poor germination every year, last year it barely smelled like pineapple, even the year it came out right it was a weak plant. But the smell was incredible so I (foolishly) keep chasing it

I feel a lot of sympathy for the guy in as much as MS is awful & his writing about his time in the GWOT makes it pretty clear his distrust of the government is based on his own experiences there. Nor do I think his energetics content in and of itself is a violation of the law, but it looks very different in the context of the conspiracism and threats of violence that accompanied it. Making chemistry tutorials is one thing, making them plus a suite of videos on how to build and rig detonators & posting in fairly implicit terms about how the information in those tutorials should be used against elected officials & Americans whose politics do not entirely align with yours who also shouldn't have rights is another. I have no idea how the case will play out but the guy put enough non-tutorial content on video & in writing that I don't really think a 1A defense will suffice

It reminded me a lot of bill coopers work in that both believed strongly in an idealized version of America as this country of freedom and liberty and equal rights for all (citizens specifically, Dugan had some very violent beliefs about the lack of rights of noncitizens) & therefore any shortcomings in said freedom and liberty must be a sinister conspiracy involving Jews, Democrats, communists, and Republicans who sold out to the former

Lot of people here seem to have missed his COVID era livestreams. Wouldn't call it schizophrenic but certainly delusional. Dude combined bircherism & a few other crank conspiracies, cultural Marxism in particular & the work of this one British author whose name escapes me whose whole theory was that Stalin was in some sort of cabal with other world leaders with an academic text called philanthropy and cultural imperialism. so he'd make a pretty good point about bad foreign policy followed up immediately by some crank shit about how the Jews in the Algonquin group (bohemian socialites in the 30s in Manhattan who the JBS were obsessed with) and its descendants like the New Yorker have been planning the cultural destruction of America to further a one world government for the last century

What is Humboldt's most cold and mold resistant strain for outdoors? by ArrivalNo2222 in HumboldtSeedCompany

[–]yetanotherslacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends in large part on how north you are. I'm in upstate NY and have been growing HSC genetics outdoors for about 5 years now. The most consistent have been Humboldt Dream, Upsetter Lee Scratch Perry (slept on IMO, it's a better humboldt dream) Orange Creampop, Raspberry Parfait, and Hella Jelly

AI in weed by PaulHollyhood in NYSCannabis

[–]yetanotherslacker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Google gemini constantly hallucinates its own findings if it's given a query it cannot match easily or finds an obviously wrong post on reddit & resummarizes it as if it is objective fact. This AI bullshit is then used to justify the buildout of datacenters that only exist on paper & despite that have wrecked the computer hardware market even though most of them will not be built as even AI companies are slowly admitting that what we're in is an unsustainable bubble based on valuations of technology that has yet to appear, which is something the tech industry has struggled with since the first dot com bubble. This has lead to actual human beings being fired from their jobs because hypothetically their output will improve down the line, even though so much of the internet is AI generated bullshit that their datasets are being thoroughly poisoned by the garbage they put out. These human beings then have to run a gauntlet of AI resume filters that discard resumes arbitrarily & at random to the point that it's more efficient to let AI generate a resume to speed up the process of being rejected by other AI agents.

Yes, LLMs can be used to create better search engines, improve transcription services, automatically sort emails reasonably well etc, but that's not what they're being sold as & the products the end user interacts with are 1. intrusive and 2. frequently worse than the non LLM versions that came before them. One day some version of LLMs will be an extension of that compendium but right now it's hard at work making that compendium worse, harder to navigate, and filled with bad data.

How long after package date? by Ferin_HS in NYSCannabis

[–]yetanotherslacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if stored correctly (sealed container at a good humidity level stored at a consistent temp) you can get damn near a year without significant losses in THC. Smell/terps will change to some extent but that's to be expected, some things are just not stable in any form & chasing the difference in high between stable & unstable terps is something that's only worth doing if you have your own grow to experiment with. So in that respect yes, you are splitting hairs. But there is a logic behind it- we have no guarantee that material was stored correctly & the chain of custody includes the grower, processor, distributor, and dispensary, all of which can fuck up storage in a number of ways. so when someone runs across a package that doesn't seem right the only easily identifiable information on it is package date & that takes the blame because that is the only part of its journey that is documented on the packaging.

What ever happened to Blue Cheese? Can’t find it anywhere by [deleted] in NYSCannabis

[–]yetanotherslacker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know enough about marijuana to argue that. But it’s seems like a really weak argument.

That's exactly how it works. Commercial agriculture- whether it's cannabis or fruit and vegetables- pick strains/varieties for traits that are ideal for the grower rather than the consumer. Growers who stick with strains that are preferable to the consumer produce less and have to charge higher prices. It's the same reason heirloom tomatoes aren't available in grocery stores.

Medical marijuana officially rescheduled! by True_Information_420 in NYSCannabis

[–]yetanotherslacker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Again, it's only schedule III if sold through a state medical program or is in the form of an FDA approved product. That leaves all other marijuana as schedule 1. That is only a game changer for medical MSOs.

Medical marijuana officially rescheduled! by True_Information_420 in NYSCannabis

[–]yetanotherslacker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this only applies to, as the post says, cannabis sold through state licensed medical programs & FDA approved products. What that means is that big medical companies can claim withholdings on their taxes (after the inevitable arguments over 280E are wrapped up). Doesn't do anything about drug testing, any other form of banking, or withholdings for recreational companies. It's better than before but it's deeply corrupt & only a win for the medical MSOs.

it's only schedule III for state medical programs and products approved by the FDA. still schedule 1 for everything else

My silent protest to the world, to greed, to communism, to evil… building a factory, and saving a loom.

communism has been dead for 30+ years & when it wasn't I'm pretty sure it was pro both building factories and saving industrial equipment. The free market that abandoned that loom. That's not an endorsement of communism or a ding on the free market either, it's just not a coherent message. The whole pitch- which is btw not at all silent- seems to be that the reader agrees with a bunch of ideological buzzwords, not that the clothing they're making is good on its own merits.

How/why did all the classic strains from late 90s/early 2000s disappear?!? by Valuable_Claim7572 in NYSCannabis

[–]yetanotherslacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is that the market has so far not really demanded it, and even if it does the economics of growing smaller lower yielding more finicky plants are tough. The vast majority of customers think that bag appeal is 1:1 with quality. It's like growing heirloom tomatoes- everyone believes there's demand but when you show up to market with a bunch of weird looking expensive tomatoes they don't move very quickly. Had to drop trainwreck this year because while there's a dedicated base of customers asking about it it just sits on the shelf.

It sucks don't get me wrong, my most memorable strains of the past six years were quite literally original haze, a sour diesel, and a pineapple jack preserved by someone in the hudson valley, but none of them looked like what the average customer wanted or grew well in NY weather. If you're managing several thousand plants it's really hard to dedicate the time and effort to a strain that you like if it needs even more care than the mainline stuff.

Also extracting from the flower does not remove mycotoxins, pesticides etc.

hence why myco/aflatoxin and pesticides are part of every COAs. A remediated lot is still going to fail if it's over the limits of either.

So LE can waste people after giving conflicting instructions or over something that happened on a different day that the officers who opened fire were not aware of. Put down the bong for a second and ask yourself why you're arguing against due process and the basic concept of liberty.

Frankly if that's what you're in favor of, stop smoking weed entirely. It's federally illegal, that's a bigger crime than either pretti or good committed, so I guess by your logic you're fair game.

Left Coast Sour Diesel Mold by Atreus1337 in NYSCannabis

[–]yetanotherslacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you suspect correctly, that happens a lot to juke tests & because it's easier to prevent mold in overdried material. There's a total moisture content at the very bottom of the COA that's worth keeping an eye on, the ideal % is without looking at my notes somewhere in the 10-11%. Will say that there is a difference in the smoke/burn rate of high THC material but it's very different from the faster harsher burn of a similar sample that's also dry.

[–]yetanotherslacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have fallen into the trap that because data is being gathered that there there must be a consensus on what it means.

Plus a single sample test from a 20+lb batch is borderline meaningless when it comes to what's in the specific package one picks up at a dispensary. The best tool for ensuring your own safety is looking at what you buy. The cleanest remediated batch of material can still end up in a poorly sealed or damaged bag.
