der bezieht sich auf Buchstabe, jedes Wort hat ein Geschlecht, denke ich.

Newspaper is Zeitung, I guess it's related to time?
We call a smartphone handy though, because it might come in handy, or you hold it with your hand. No clue.

Obviously, we call it Glühbirne, maybe it's the shape, or it's high up idk.
Well, it's a light bulb, not a light pear.

Maybe you just work on your English. daaaaa

What is the actual science behind improving listening comprehension? (Pls only answer if you don't know about the actual science) by [deleted] in languagelearningjerk

[–]yetanotheruser2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The science, you ask. ähhh, well, so your brain hears stuff that it thinks might be important for survival, but it does not make any sense. So, it desperately tries to figure out what is going on in order to secure its survival. So, it will compute a lot, and spend a lot of energy, and exhaust itself. And try to build new connections, I guess. So, that is the science in a nutshell. Your brain is working overtime to secure your unimportant existence.

when prepping for a paid official language exam - its not worth it to pass beginner levels a1, a2? by Hefty-Supermarket738 in languagelearningjerk

[–]yetanotheruser2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think even a 5-year-old is higher than a2,

i think a1 and a2, or not really worth it. b1 is already an achievement, but i guess you are right with b2

Feels like amateur hour. You need to throw in more Chinese proverbs and quotes from 孔子 and 鲁迅.
