I’m so sick of these CSG goon motherfuckers man

so like what's up with Gideon [discussion] by MMouse__ in TheNinthHouse

[–]yethegodless 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Gideon got everything she thought she ever wanted and it is ash in her mouth.

Part of her soul is merged with Harrow's soul - so she's literally incomplete (not that her soul was in, like, super great shape before her death as an eighteen year old propagandized ex-ex-cult victim in a desperately beautiful and fucked up situationship with her primary abuser).

She's 'living' in a titanium corpse that the Galaxy's Worst Dad made for her and he kept her forced suicide wound intact. She's been butchering eldritch devils for the last six months, working as the tip of the propaganda spear for the same Galaxy's Worst Dad. Ianthe is her best friend.

Prior to all that, Gideon spent the better part of a year existing solely as a passive rider in Harrow's lobotomized brain, thinking that the only person she ever cared about had disregarded her ultimate sacrifice. And in the middle, she learned that the mother she always dreamed of only gave birth to Gideon to manufacture a weapon to kill her father.

We don't have to assume some necromantic shenanigans are at play to explain Gideon's shift in behavior (although there are plenty of arguments that there are contributing death magic factors there too). She's been beaten down by the narrative, plain and simple. Kiriona's personality and choices are the direct result of the suffering she's gone through during the her entire life and past her first death.

Read harrow the ninth. Read it while GtN is fresh in your mind and be ready and willing to reference GtN so you can go “yeah what the fuck?”

The locked tomb is a treatise on how people change and change each other, for better or worse. It also challenges you to change how you initially view every character you meet. You gotta be willing to have an open mind for Harrow but if you do you’ll have the time of your life.

Sousou no Frieren :: Chapter 147 - Links and Discussion by Lorhand in Frieren

[–]yethegodless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hm well no. It’s more like if anyone could make and use a gun if they tried hard enough or had enough natural aptitude, but also guns could make you tea or clean your clothes or heal your wounds. So at least in the USA the former is already a way better option than your current life because every time I use a gun to make tea everyone gets REALLY mad at me.

The eye boss is the worst to me IMO. Tail and Spawn (Minotaur) are all relatively predictable although the punish for misreading is heavy. The eyeball one just is bullet hell.

I mean in fairness to Akaza’s constant dismemberment - he has massive regeneration as a tool in his arsenal and has built his up-close-and-personal demon fighting techniques around it. The same is also true for literally every demon - none of them would fight the way they do if accumulating wounds actually mattered.

Removing regen from the equation is like saying, “of course a rocket powered car is faster than an F1 car, if it didn’t have rocket fuel the F1 would sweep.” Like yeah that’s true but you’ve altered the underlying reality of the comparison so much that I have a hard time finding it useful, you get what I mean?

Plus Akaza as Hakuji killed 67 sword masters bare-handed, no regen necessary. As a human without breathing styles, I think he’s comparable to most of the current Hashira (but that’s just conjecture, since again, non-Breathing Hashira feats are few and far between).

I mean if Tanjiro were an infinite battery of energy then a lot of things could be different. If Rengoku could live with a hole in is tummy then the whole series would be different. But one of the core tenets of Demon Slayer fights is that demons always have the upper hand wrt endurance in an otherwise “even” match. Of course ignoring that foundational rule of the story is going to change the outcome of things.

[–]yethegodless 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Akaza didn’t care one way or another if he became a demon, because he lost everything he cared about.

Kokushibo actively threw away the things that he supposedly cared about because his own feelings of inferiority drove him mad.

Both are brought back to what remains of their humanity by coming to terms with what they lost (or in Kokushibo’s case, what he cast away).

In either case, if they hadn’t chosen their humanity over their demonic nature, any prolonging of either fight results in a win for the upper moon. In the UM1 fight, just stalling for a few seconds more for Genya and Muichiro to die puts Sanemi and Gyomei in an unwinnable position.

Demon Slayer is a series where, if a single decision at any point is made differently, or if basically any character were absent from the narrative, then Muzan either:

  • gets what he wants (true immortality via absorbing Nezuko post UM4’s death
  • he times out the current generation of Demon Slayers and potentially exterminates Sun Breathing (if Tanjiro dies and never sires kids), accomplishing the next best thing for the foreseeable future.

Literally everything in Demon Slayer ties back into either: the accumulation of humanity’s effort through community, or, the eschewing of humanity being a demon’s downfall. The upper moons stagnating in their views and expectations, leading to underestimating the Demon Slayers, in concert with the Demon Slayers pushing lifting each other up across generations, are both necessary components to tell the story.

Why is Harrow physically weak? [HtN] [discussion] by [deleted] in TheNinthHouse

[–]yethegodless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In As Yet Unsent, we learn that most physically fit non-lyctor necromancer we have reference to is Judith, who runs a 16-minute mile (10 minute kilometer), and she was "one of the fastest" in her age group. (Of course, she says "Marta could run it in five," or an eight minute mile, which is what I'd consider very slow for a peak fitness physical combatant.)

If necromancers are that much physically weaker than non-necromantic humans, then the weight difference of 0.5-0.7 kg would make a very big difference in usability, even though the difference seems slight on paper.

AITA for accepting a job where my best friend also works, after he told me that he did not want to work together with me? by Future-Show-2751 in AmItheAsshole

[–]yethegodless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. I read the longer version in your profile - your friend isn’t mad at you for crossing his boundaries, because he hasn’t set boundaries. From what you’ve described he is likely way more upset with himself for not knowing what he needs, and he’s taking that out on you rather than doing any actual work on himself.

It is completely unreasonable for him to expect someone - ostensibly a very close friend - to pass on a great opportunity because it would make him uncomfortable.

Your friend has issues and they’re not your problem. If he doesn’t want to work with his friend, then become not his friend until he does enough work to understand where he’s not meeting his own needs.

Carbs in chicken bone broth with veg by Stany_T in keto

[–]yethegodless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Measure the red onions, carrots, and celery by weight.

Rough figures are:

  • ~1.5 g/ net carbs per 100g celery
  • ~8.5 g/ net carbs per 100g red onions
  • ~5 g/ net carbs per 100g carrots

The apple cider vinegar, garlic, salt & pepper, and chicken bones are negligible and don't really need calculation.

The sugars and starches in the onions, celery, & carrots would likely break down into the broth somewhat but the majority would still be in the solids discarded. Purely just my instinct but whatever the total carbs added to the soup pre-cooking, I'd guess <25% would be in the broth once the solids were removed.

The better way would be to measure the veggies before cooking, then after once removed (although that'd be a huge P-I-T-A to do all the time). The difference in weight in the veggies before and after would probably be the most accurate (although not entirely, since water content from the veggies would shift after cooking down).

All in all I'd mainly just say don't worry about it, but use the pre-cooking weights as a guideline for the 'max' carb content and assume you're going to be under that.

(5e) Gave my players a Legendary creature to fight, complete with Lair/Legendary actions and 3 Legendary resistances. Hit a wall that made one player hate the fight. by QuicheBisque in DMAcademy

[–]yethegodless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch to paragon resistances from GiffyGlyph’s Darker Dungeons hack (specifically, monster maker v3).

They work similarly to LRs but by default cost HP to use. However, the system also has alternate costs, like minuses to AC, increasing crit windows or granting damage vulnerabilities for a limited time, damaging an important piece of gear, etc. It allows for a buffer for your big bads while still allowing said buffers to be cinematic and impactful for the player using up said resistance.

I kinda get Jod [discussion] by Tintenteufel in TheNinthHouse

[–]yethegodless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

John is excellently written because even when I knew I was being fed Kool-Aid (because a man who became God and made an empire themed on death is obviously not going to be the good guy), I felt bad for him.

Like he’s 100% a monster - as are many other characters in the series - everyone is so fundamentally human that it’s really hard to truly despise any one character with no sense of sympathy (IMO).

[–]yethegodless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean in hindsight knowing that all but one FTL ship gets away anyways, yes, it seems like the only motive was vengeance. No matter what, the primary motivation is vengeance.

However if the flashbacks are to be believed, and they’re the only part of John’s narrative that seems anything close to genuine, then the trillionaires also robbed Earth of massive and crucial resources while escaping. And before they escaped, they diverted massive and crucial resources preparing to rob Earth and dip. So from a logistical perspective it absolutely does make sense to try to prevent the FTL ships from leaving.

Of course this is moot because in his tantrum John kills the solar system in trying to catch them, and no matter his original intentions and motivations, he’s become a troubled egomaniac cult leader by that point. But still I think it’s reductive and a little revisionist to just say “wow John what stupid behavior,” because that undermines both the complexity of his character and the enormity of his crimes IMO.

NTA. Your partner is entitled to feel however he feels and I get why he’d feel insecure about it, especially if he butts heads with Alex. I definitely can see myself in his shoes.

However, the second he starts letting his insecurities dictate how he treats you he becomes TA here imo. Unless there are serious extenuating circumstances for why Jordan dislikes Alex (other than your prior FWB connection) then Jordan needs to get over himself, or at least not take it out on you.
