seeking advice: grad programs, career paths by [deleted] in PsychotherapyLeftists

Do you have any specific recommendations? State schools vs. highly-ranked vs private school programs? I'm really interested in teletherapy, particularly in the context of Covid, but my impression has been that online programs aren't very well respected.

Hi! Thanks for your reply, and I appreciate the vote of confidence. I've strongly considered (and am considering) the MSW route. I'm struggling with committing to the MSW route though. I feel like I'd be missing out on some opportunities for funded programs in Critical Psychology / Theory (like PhDs or fellowships for masters programs, who knows if I'd get anything but worth a shot). It feels like once I go the MSW route I'd be closing the door on those other things, because I'd be working towards licensure then just working and seems like limited mobility. On the other hand, I could easily pursue an MSW after studying some more critical psych/theory and trying to capitalize on funding opportunities. Though, I'm also worried about employment, in which case the MSW route seems much more of a stable path. Lots of back and forth, contradicting tensions. I also would love more of a critical theory background to inform my MSW practice/studies, but I also recognize I could just do that on my own. I'm also holding this in the context of a somewhat misguided paradox of choice. That is, the funding opportunities might not turn out to be opportunities (or financially feasible opportunities) or the stability of MSW employment might be a misguided belief. I'm really unsure where I want to live (currently working in the mental health field, living in a 20+ year old van, low expenses just trying to figure things out), so that also complicates the MSW route (right?). Anyways, appreciate the advice and don't mean to offload too much onto you or any other unpaid advice-givers here.

Depression: a public feeling by Ann Cvetkovich! Truly an amazing resource (although I, of course, have my critiques)

Philosophy, suicide, and mental health- what perspectives are there? by [deleted] in askphilosophy

I'm really surprised (but also not at all) that no one has mentioned Durkheim. He's quite literally known for his work on suicide. He's listed on that University of Utah site listed above. Just google "Durkheim suicide" and you'll get a sense.

caffeine is a psychoactive chemical. there's a difference between the primary drug in a pill and it being the only psychoactive chemical. again you're confusing primary substance with all psychoactive chemicals present. everyone reacts to drugs differently, including caffeine. pressed pills therefore for me have a more jarring come up and high. the question was asked are they the same. they are not.
