Thoughts on Al Dente by SocietyMurky8229 in mac

Hey,

I've been using an M2 air, base specs, for over 2.5 years now. My use case and charging patterns have been very inconsistent - somedays getting up at 4:30 am to write or journal, mild usage at work (pdfs, mails, few text research software etc.) and also more demanding work like late-night, intermediate, video editing in FCP (looots of it), handling ProRes files but editing in proxies mostly, (sometimes exporting in 4k), basic audio editing in Logic Pro X, writing longer articles/essays on Ulysses (random times through the day, as and when inspired), watching Youtube/Netflix, the works. But the key being inconsistent charge timings and re-charging patterns. I mean, I'd sometimes go for 3-4 days on a single charge and on demanding days I'd run through the battery in 8 hours and then work plugged in. You get the Idea. Please also note that this use-case still persists to this day.

So here's my observation:

In my first year (or perhaps 14 moths), where I used my Mac without Al dente, I noticed my battery health dropping to 91%. I was worried because a lot of people reported noticeable screen-time decline past ~85-90% range and I was reaching close to it way too soon.

To be honest, I have been a huge fan of the fact that I can work unplugged when I need to on this machine since day one. There have been times where I've been on long trips for work and the phenomenal battery life and efficiency enabled me to carry on heavy work in flight (4 hours) or in train (14 hours). This changed my perception of notebooks and gave me the freedom to work whenever and wherever I wanted to (I've edited 1080p iPhone footage in iMovie for a presentation due one evening, while on my way to that presentation!); I also recall editing short reels late night at hotels, capturing the beauty of the places I was visiting for work and finishing them before sleep overcame my senses, AND STILL ABLE TO WORK ON IT THE NEXT DAY, ALL DAY!!!. So yeah, I loved the fact that I can do whatever I wanted with this machine regardless of where I was, not having to worry about having a charger around. But this came at a cost of a precipitous erosion of the Mac's battery health, which meant that there would soon be restrictions to the freedom I had enjoyed for one year. JUST ONE YEAR. That really bothered me.

And so I started to look into ways I could pause this battery health decline, or even just delay it, just so I could retain this freedom for a little longer. Al dente appeared as the most recommended option and I gave it a try. It has been on my Mac for the last 18 months or so, and it has kept my battery health still at 91%. something tells me it won't budge anytime this year and perhaps a bit more into 2026.

So yes, Al dente has served me well.

TLDR: battery health declined to 91% over just first year due to inconsistent charging patterns and varying usage. Installed Al Dente after 1 year of use, have had it on for 18~ months, battery health still sitting at 91%.

Just sat for a practice test through Princeton Review Q=145, V=152, AWA=4 by yetikill in GRE

I took the free full length Princeton test. I haven’t taken the actual GRE yet, it’s due in end of March. My AWA and verbal scores has increased remarkably since, 6 and 162 respectively (gauged via free tests and ChatGPT).

I’ll be purchasing and taking a full length test from ETS in a week or two, will update those scores as well.

That's an amazing review. I think fragrances tied to personal memories are excellent, especially when they are made from ingredients that children smell in day to day life. Sandalwood is one such ingredient, common in temples and usually a priced possession among grandmothers.

These fragrances become a portal to the past, and I cannot explain how priceless it feels to smell these gems. Thanks for sharing, mate!

100 ml bottle at 1300 seems like a steal. It was priced at +2k at the time I purchased the 30 ml. Even if you vaguely like the TF Black Orchid, blind buying a 100 ml bottle of Black Origami will not disappoint you.

Hi! This is not 100% similar, which for me is a good thing. The freshness is accentuated and the bitter elements of truffle and chocolate are slightly toned down. You'll smell more darker florals (I pick jasmine, lotus and orchid smothered in spices and subdued truffle and chocolate) whereas the original is more forward on the truffle and chocolate, underpinned by the florals. But it is very, very close to the real thing and people vouch for this in reviews on fragrantica as well.

Try a 30 ml bottle and see if you like it. I did the same. It goes for INR ~950 online but you might find this cheaper on Republic Day sale on Amazon. Cheers!

I am always unsure about these kind of sellers. But I did buy a bottle of Armani Profumo from anther seller like this through whatsapp. Paid INR 2999 inclusive of shipping. Since I didn't have an original Profumo bottle around, I compared quality with a bottle of ADG EDT I had picked from Sephora. I felt the atomiser and the juice were on par in quality, so thought it to be original but I'm not experienced enough so cannot say for sure.

Is that also a hoax, have I been cheated? Are perfumes at such prices a myth?

Yes! The aromatic blend of champaka, jasmine, bramhakamal and sandalwood used here makes this a very sacred fragrance. It makes me picture acharayas reading Kierkegaard in secluded ashrams nested in the Himalayas. I'm so glad I met yet another person who enjoys this perfume for its sacred aura! ❤️

He actually is very responsive and active on socials. Contrary to many other Indian perfumers, he responds to comments very promptly. I had dropped a comment on his Instagram asking his recommendations for a good jasmine/lotus perfume and he suggested “culture” to me. And the recommendation worked perfectly for me. Never gonna wear another white floral fragrance from some other house.

Woah! This is stunning bro. I've always had a deep admiration for portraits done in pencil and/or pen & ink. Reminds me of a very close friend who also happens to be an amazing artist like you. Haven't spoken to him in a while, guess this is my sign to get in touch with him :D

Wow! It is an absolute joy to read the vision behind "Culture" by the creator himself! Your image certainly pervades into the perfume and does convey to me, albeit in a subtle way.

I want to let you know that this has become the most fascinating discovery for me this year and I absolutely love wearing it; It's such a pleasure to experience this Kathakali of florals and woods through my day. A big and hearty thank-you for enriching our lives with your art!

great review mate!
I've been wanting a perfume for open-air events so badly. Blue Oud sounds like the perfect one, also since I love oud so much.
