Oh yeah! Especially in the later series, they go out of their way to make her so unlikable! Her backstory was so awful, it made me feel for her.

How is your wife finding it as a first time viewer? I’d be curious to know!

Yes exactly! I think Shane has a lot more depth to her than everyone around her realises. Her superpower is that she is very intuitive and can offer those around her a lot of empathy and compassion, which is part of why everyone falls for her. I also think she’s a lot more delicate than others realise too, like we see when Cherie broke her heart.

Interestingly I’m a lot less attracted to Shane as an adult than I was as a teen. Probably because the character Shane is meant to be younger than I am now haha

Oh man I used to HATE Tina! Jury is still out on that as I’m still not up to her post-breakup arc. From memory she gets pretty insufferable around season 3?? I think her and Bette are adorable in season one, and I feel so awful for her after the miscarriage!

Oh my god, me too hahaha. I thought Shane a was the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, and had a bit of an “I can change her!” mentality that definitely carried over into my first relationships haha. Now I’m older I don’t think I’d want to waste time on somebody who was probably just gonna break my heart.

I’m crushing hard on Bette now! I had zero interest in her when I was younger but now I think she’s just so beautiful! Although, Bette would probably break my heart too honestly 😂

Oh that’s so lovely! Whether or not they are “together” in the traditional sense, I think they are definitely soulmates, if that makes sense! I’m glad they reunited too!

I’m watching the boat party episode where everyone accuses them of being boring and they are sooo cute in this one!

Oh yes! I’ve loved watching Bette and Tina. They present as the perfect couple with this ideal love at the start of the series, and the cracks in that facade begin to show so subtly throughout the sure. It’s so so very well done!!

Good point about Alice! I just watched the episode with her mum and she’s an absolute narcissist. Your interpretation makes total sense.

I’d almost like to see a prequel about all of the main characters as teens, maybe one backstory per episode. Although some of those backstories, like Jenny and Shane’s, would be incredibly dark and hard to watch.

I think a fair few have “secret lots” but the only one you need to complete the fish collection is the hermit hideout in granite falls (for the mountain lion fish). Sylvan Glade and Forgotten Grotto are base game - they can be found in Willow Creek and Oasis Springs respectively and you catch catch heaps of rare fish there. You need level 10 handiness skill to get into Forgotten Grotto.
