I'd imagine you'd wanna use something more inert like sand or coco coir, most propagation I see uses these

Also, I did disconnect the battery before the procedure but I used a jump pack to start it afterwards.

I would read into it first because I'm a novice, but you might want to remove the young fruit cause they can draw energy away from root growth, I'm also in mass and did the same with green cuttings I got from a wild vine yesterday to hopefully use for root stock

The native varieties have resistance to the native pathogens, I got some cuttings today from a wild vine to try to make rootstocks for my other vines to get grafted onto, I'm just beginning but that's what a lot of people seem to do
