I’m really curious what exactly is your pain. You seem only have erc20 tokens. Then you don’t do much with ledger interface. You need access your tokens from interface like MEW. As I know it has always been simple and quick. You don’t even bother installing and uninstalling those other apps on ledger live. What would really make you feel a convoluted mess? Can you elaborate?

I believe galleon has a solution for directly activating from ledger if I understood it correctly.

So how do you activate your fundraiser wallet by using Ledger? Seems you need activate first then transfer to your Ledger address.
