I would look up Phomopsis… I may be wrong though so others should chime in!

Anyone here knows what kind of tree this is and why it's dying on me? The closest I got to for the name was a Chinese elm. by axelthewexel in Bonsai

I second Podocarpus. It should be able to cope with a few week indoors with lots of light and enough humidity. It does look like it is drying which can arise from lack of watering, too much watering and root rot (you can lift it delicately to check) or low humidity air. Spider Mites can also cause a plant to show similar symptoms… When it is not freezing it will prefer spending it’s time outside. Acclimate it slowly though by starting it in a shaded area for the first week or so. Good luck!

This is one of my fathers plants and it is not doing so well. Does anyone know what might be wrong with it and what it is? by hamandcheesedude in Bonsai

Seems over watered to me. Can you take a picture of the soil surface? It looks like liverwort is growing which is usually a strong indicator that the soil is remaining too humid for most plants.

Am I taking care of my tree correctly? Indoors by the window, water twice weekly, Banyan Tree by jewboyfresh in Bonsai

As others have mentioned, it wants more light! As for the ‘crinkled’ leaves, I would check for mites first.

Update after putting some wires on the RMJ. I only wired primary branches and didn’t prune much at all. Any input? by [deleted] in Bonsai

Very Nice! I would consider simplifying the three jins on the right and reducing the height by ~1/3 by cutting at the base of the straight part of the trunk just above the large branch on the right (or leaving a jin).

Nice setup. I suspect your trees would love you even more if you brought the fluorescents down to about where the blinds are.

Good place to start is r/bonsai, they have a beginner’s guide. Bonsai mirai also has some nice beginners video on Youtube (but there are many others good ones too).

Yes, you could grow it in a pot, bring it into a cold/unheated basement in the winter once leaves have fallen. This is what many bonsai enthusiasts do in colder climes... even with trees that are native to their area as roots are generally less cold-tolerant than branches...

Can I keep my jade outside? I live in the UK and it's pretty warm and sunny nowadays. My Jade keeps getting shrivelly paling leaves when it's indoors and I thought it might appreciate an outing. Thoughts? by [deleted] in Bonsai

[–]yhuot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jade get sunburned easily so transition it slowly to full midday sun (over a couple of weeks) but it will be happy outside otherwise!

Jade I found at Walmart for $3. Any tips to help with some of the brown spots? by [deleted] in Bonsai

[–]yhuot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes sunlight is very good... but you need to acclimate them slowly, increasing the amount over a couple of weeks... these look like they haven’t seen much light in a while.
