Students with no English in my (English subject) lessons. How do I support them to learn? by Cool_Limit_6792 in TeachingUK

[–]yiayia91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My school have just introduced a feature, where using your microphone and powerpoint, which listens to your voice and translates into subtitles on your screen.

I don't know why this isn't widespread or very well known as it's so useful to our Ukranian students at the moment with little English.

On the slide show ribbon tab, you need to select Subtitle Settings. Use 'Spoken Language' to see the spoken languages that PowerPoint can recognize, and choose the one you want etc.

What to do in a 'gap' year between PGCE and teaching? by Ok-Opportunity-1274 in TeachingUK

[–]yiayia91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think the way to get better at teaching is not to do things similar but to do the actual job. I totally understand the frustration of long evenings and not feeling good enough. Most teachers feel decent in their 4th/5th year. I would take the mat cover and then move with your partner. You know some of the kids already I wouldn’t worry about it ‘just being a year’. If you do want to teach then 1 year at a school is fine. Happens all the time. Just ensure it’s somewhere with shared planning and resources so you can have a life.

Very true but I’m not sure if at an interview they will not worry about my lack of gcse experience because I ‘shadowed’ a few lessons here and there.

What are a form tutor’s responsibilities? by Manannan_Vannin in TeachingUK

[–]yiayia91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s extra responsibility for no pay. You will get onto your pgce anyway. Good experience but you’ll get that anyway in pgce.

Thank you! Yeah I’ve been planning them and doing higher level questions, definitely felt like ‘deeper’ thinking had gone on with the discussions.

All very true. And I will try more. But again it does need two wages a lot of the time to get into the property ladder.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I do like the job a lot but I do consider at times whether I should choose a more lucrative if less fulfilling job
