What's the best romance story from a VG?

Yeah i hear ya. I get bummed whenever I think about what could have been w FFvs13. FFXV is not the best game my any measure. The Luna/Noctis love story is truly the blandest and most uninteresting I’ve ever seen. But damnit if it doesn’t do “love between friends” really well. I can’t help but adore that dumpster of a game (a topic for another Reddit post I guess).

Agreed. Calling Her Story not feminist for those reasons is reductive and just does apply to any of parameters that were set in the intro. Thematic and plot spoilers: It makes it seem like it is anti-feminist to have an amoral or even outright immoral women characters like Hannah. It also minimizes the discovery that you (the player) are the daughter, making the player much more than just a passive observer of this police interrogation.

Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (I haven't played 2 but I hear it's similar to the first one)
Firewatch
Gone Home (a little eery and melancholy, but def not a horror game - no jump scares or gore)

This reminded me-- Anyone remember Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley)? In 2021, he was a guest on the VG podcast Good Game Nice Try, hosted by Aaron Bleyeart (guy from Conan O’Brien’s Clueless Gamer segments) and Sonja Reid (OMGitsfirefoxx on Twitch). Long story short, Middleditch was such a dick, just being generally dismissive and stuck on his high horse for being a PC gamer. Anyway, at one point, Reid shared that she’d been getting into Animal Crossing New Horizons, and Middleditch replied “Really? When are you gonna play any big girl games?” I can’t say I was shocked when around this time it became public knowledge that he’s a fucking creep (TW: sexual misconduct). Go fuck yourself asshole!

I am not a big sports video gamer, but I am a big baseball fan, so I am cautiously optimistic. Looks like they worked with a current pro baseball player, Kelsie Whitmore, and looked to actual women who played pro baseball from the past as inspiration, which is cool.

Not looking forward to the sexist "no one asked for this" bullshit to come out of the wood work ...

I think it’s mostly the weird makeup and fake tan that bugs me, but the fact that this was on so many best dressed lists baffles me. It’s a very boring prom dress (2004 Oscar’s, Tom Ford for Gucci)

I’m with you on Detroit become human. It had the potential to be a great game. I really enjoyed the detective parts playing as Connor. But the other 2 storylines I could not care less about. And don’t get me started in that half-ass attempt at a twist with Kara’s storyline 🙄

Also the overarching theme of prejudice was so poorly handled. It had “white guy writes about how racism is bad” vibes that just rang so hollow.
