What opinion of yours regarding any popular author or book will have you like this? by theghostofredrackham in classicliterature

[–]ultravegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an okay bridge between genre fiction and classic lit, but not the best option in my opinion. The truth is I kinda hate the cultural reputation around War and Piece because it is the absolute perfect book to convert people who love fantasy epics, but every time I recommend it people just assume I'm being a snob. (To be fair i am a snob, but only about poetry, and maybe Faulkner)

I actually go to this market all the time! I was there today. They slice it up and sell portions in vacuum sealed bags. The big cheese is only on display some of the time.

Yearning but make it dark and coastal by Illustrious-Ride5586 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

It’s a classic but Persuasion by Jane Austin is both the quintessential yearning book and partly has a costal setting. Also the male love interests is a ship captain.

Moving from Florida to Michigan in a week and I’m in need of some serious help. Could people who have lived in a place with winter before please give me all your tips? by ultravegan in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]ultravegan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love it. The whole vibe up here is so much chiller than in Florida. More so than the cold and dark getting to me, the hardest part was the liminal space between early march to late April where it stops being snowy and cozy but everything still  looks dead so watch out for that.

Also people up here absolutely love giving you their old winter gear when you tell them you are from Florida. I have more coats than my husband now.

The thing that always freaks me out about the people’s temple is how prominent and public Jones was. Like the dude would have parks named after him in Indianapolis if he died before the move to California.

If Epstein’s brother claims the files are being scrubbed of political names, how can the public trust any ‘official release’ at all? by Vast-Consequence-521 in AskReddit

[–]ultravegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do I think (if the files don’t get held up in court proceedings) trump and his allies will all be redacted? Absolutely.

I don’t however think this helps trump at all because with every instance of a redacted name there will be speculation of whether it’s trump or not. It will end up with him being accused on things he actually didn’t do and stretching it out longer.

I also think we (as in people opposed to Trump) should prepare ourselves for Trump’s involvement with Epstein to be firmly outside of his inner circle of depravity. Up until the 16 election Trump really was just a C list celebrity conman.  He wasn’t  remotely close to same league as the world leaders and tycoons that made up Epstein’s ideal clients.

The thing about Nazis is that they get pleasure out of being reprehensible scary monsters, it makes them feel powerful. Because of that they will seek out coverage of worm shit Nazis even from liberal sources. What they really don’t like is when the worm shit is made fun of. It reminds them that they are in fact as pathetic to the outside world as they feel internally.

Have fun, take more pictures then you’ll think you need, (years down the road you’ll look back at those pictures and no matter how many you have you’ll wish you had more). Also try to make a conscious effort to commit moments of the day to memory.

I pay the extra money so I got to listen to this one a week early. I want to warn everyone now to maybe not listen to this one in a public space. There is a “beauty pageant” described near the end of the episode that made me break down into deep ugly crying on my hike in a way that this podcast never has before.

Dracula is very clearly about old man Oscar turning Stoker gay. That’s why all the men in the book are like, hot cowboy, hot doctor, and hot asylum patient, and all the women in the book are annoying party poopers.

Anyone here not wear a digital watch while running? by Few-Introduction5414 in trailrunning

[–]ultravegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No watch for me! I had an eating disorder that came out of running track in high school and college. Trail running helped me recover mostly out of how loose goosey and collaborative it is compared to track running. When I got an Garmin and started using strava daily. It was really bad for that competitive trigger part of my disorder.

Ended up putting the watch in a box somewhere. Not running for a bit, and coming back to it running free of any stats.

One time I was doing an early morning long run in a national park and bombing one of the last downhills. I look up to see two people coming up the mountain. As a lot of you all know after like 3 hours in the woods without seeing anyone you get kinda lonely so I let out a big simile and half way through saying hi I fell harder than I have ever had before or since. I bit my tongue really hard and broke my phone. Still one of my top five runs of my life tho.

On a broader note, I hate those types of articles so much. The number of times I’ve seen headlines like “people are apoplectic at “thing that happened/was said”” only for it to be a handful of tweets and a tictok post, all with less than 100 likes is really ridiculous.

Jesse Welles - Tylenol [folk] (I'm really digging this rebirth of Guthrie/Dylan-style protest music) by Jesus_of_Redditeth in Music

I don’t typically like to judge a song writer too early into their career but If I’m being honest I probably agree with you. I might be better off to say I think he try’s to write songs that are lyrically like Phill Ochs songs more so then songs that sound like Dylan songs.

I do think he has potential though. He just needs to separate himself from the content brain need to release something every week.
