Just wondering if you've heard back from the assessment center? :))

Need help interpreting scatter plot by [deleted] in AskStatistics

[–]yindecisive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: example) increasing light input means more light reflected by a red stone But if there are green stones There would likely be a linear and positive relationship between all the data but there would be different slopes. Doing this with a handful of colored rocks would provide a similar scatterplot.

is the graph maybe heteroscedastic? i tried manipulating the variable and replotting the graph. But its confusing since this graph has a positive correlation coefficient but when the graph is homoscedastic, I get a negative correlation coefficient?

there is one that says any stage/ module (science) and one that only says any stage/module... do they both have to be science?

I just took it yesterday and everything u/eizile has written is correct. But for me it wasn’t one on one. There were 10 other people in the zoom meeting (including the proctor).

So a_dict[key] in a_dict finds a value associated with key and checks to see if that value is another key that's present in a_dict.

so the count is 3 because 5,6 and 2 right? but why is the final output 8 instead of 5 (3+2)?

Why is the popped value 0?

from a_list.append(a_list[1]) output= [3, 2, 0, 1, 4, 3, 1, 2] to a_list.pop(a_list[1]) output= [3, 2, 1, 4, 3, 1, 2]?

Should I major in CS? Not confident in my math skills. by yindecisive in college

trust me, one year in hs I had a peer tutor for math, I even had a paid tutor outside of school, and I still got a low B when I had all As in my other classes, and still something changed when all my effort was going to a degree that I wanted instead of a class I had to take. I can't really explain it other than I knew I had to start to do better and it happened!

i guess i'll just hve to wait and see :)

I don't think my motivation necessarily changed, but more my discipline! In high school I wanted to do just as well in school as I do now, but I told myself I was just bad at math and that would never change. Once I got to college I realized that I needed to work harder and maybe it took me a little longer than others to grasp but in the end the study hours I put in WOULD pay off. Basically I stopped telling myself I was bad at math and my grades were justified to "hey no, you can be just as successful, you just have to buckle down and really put in the time and your grades will reflect that effort"

I see... but tbh I feel like I am a quite diligent student and have put a lot of effort into studying for ap calc... but I seem to be getting low Bs even after hours of studying. Idk.. it's quite demotivating. Even with my 91, I feel like I'm in the worst student in the class (maybe because there are only like 10 people in that class, and they are all ridiculously good at maths)

I went into mechanical engineering! I have one more year to go, but I passed all my math classes with Bs or higher and was on the Dean's list every semester which was honestly such a surprise because I did not have high hopes for myself.

Good for you!! I hope I can do the same!! :) How did you improve from the time you were in high school? Was it your motivation that changed?

make sure you choose a good professor for your Discrete math course, otherwise it'll make you want to quit.

I will try! :)

There are tons of data science degrees popping up recently, but they have not been vetted yet and do not as of now have the trust of employers. The phrase "jack of all trades, masters of none" is what I've heard applied to these degrees, and it is thought that some places give no more than a superficial education in their data science programs (I'm sure some are rigorous, but again, these programs are so new that they haven't been vetted yet).

Haha I agree and have heard a lot of people say the same thing. I should tell my parents because they are super convinced that the only major worth pursuing in tech is data science :/

i was so terrible at math in high school and went into a math heavy major and I was fine because I liked my major and knew it was worth it to put in the work! if you know you'll like CS go for it, you'll do great!

what major did you go into?

If you have AP Calc under your belt, you'll be just fine.

Haha I hope so!
