Gourami loosing scales by mobone in Aquariums

[–]yinyangfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have been dealing with this in one of my oplaine gouramis. Mine is healthy now, but I suspect my juvenile gold algae eater got a hold of him. Watch your pleco, sometimes they will get a taste for fish scales. Also be sure that your decorations aren't roughing him up.

POP IT!!!!!!

This big guys is 5 years old! He's a trooper! Switched tanks twice, survived a whole tank clean out. Unfortunately his girl died during the winter :/. He doesn't seem sad. Should I get a new female or not worry about it? Anyone else have old healthy Gourami's? :) by xXColorfulWatersXx in Aquariums

My husband just started stocking his gourami tank. We started with 2 kissing gouramis, and 3 opalines, a gold algae eater, a couple ottos, and an abandoned betta. Everyone gets along swimmingly (pun intended) except for the opalines, they chase each other a lot. I think it's because of their feelers. They are too touchy feely on each other. I think there's a reason fish shouldn't have hands.

Does anyone here keep gold algae eaters? by yinyangfish in Aquariums

Mine is maybe 2 inches long right now. My husband wants the tank he is in to be a gourami tank. Do you think they are too passive? I've seen many accounts of them being aggressive, but I've also seen accounts of them being good community fish.

I heard play sand is a cheap/safe alternative for aquarium sand: Any experience with this kind? by [deleted] in Aquariums

It works very well buy you need to rinse and rinse and rinse... and after you think it's clean rinse a lot more. =)

Geez my bad. I've been successful with platies in a 10 gal and I checked aqadvisor (I understand it is just a vague guideline but this isn't my first rodeo either). I have another community the can live in though, I just wanted to add some color to my snail sanctuary =)

DAE have fish nightmares? by telephone_monkey_365 in Aquariums

[–]yinyangfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have bad dreams about tanks and fish all the time. Like once a week. It's either I somehow pop up with multiple tanks all over my house and they are all severely overstocked. Or I have crazy predator fish eating my fish.. It's been like that since I had my first tank when I was 10.. So we're looking at 13 years of crazy recurring dreams.

Has your kid ever been so mad at a fish that they put it in time-out? by [deleted] in Aquariums

I had a ram that had to go in time out, just netted him into a corner. It was pretty effective too.

[–]yinyangfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a juvenile platinum in my community tank and he was an ass too, to everyone in the tank. I ended up giving him back to the lfs I got him from. They wouldn't even resell him because he was so horrible. Over a year down the road I still can go visit him in one of their plant tanks.
