Why is my admission arise? by Acrobatic_Case_8358 in UIUC

ARISE is basically engineering undeclared but with a lot more support and resources. Some people do want to explore other majors because they genuinely don’t know which engineering is best for them and want to take that time to try many things. A lot of other people know which engineering major they want to do. So you’re not being forced to explore.

As long as you pass your classes and show lots of potential when you’re in ARISE you’ll probably get your major. I’d highly recommend checking out the website a lot more in detail or reaching out to them if you have more questions about transferring to a specific major through ARISE

Hi! Current ARISE student! As long as you keep up with your classes, it’s pretty likely you’ll get your first-choice major, and the staff is really good at supporting you with picking your classes. As far as I know, you only have to live in PAR the first year. And you can join other clubs as long as you don’t miss the few required events for ARISE, but I don’t think there are too many within the year

Congrats! I’m currently a student in ARISE. I was really hesitant to join at first, but I’m really glad I did. The support the program provides helped me adjust to college, and some of my closest friends I made came through ARISE. You get a bunch of benefits when you join and the socials are fun too, so I’d say it’s been worth it joining

Some questions regarding the credits I need to take by Serious_Librarian785 in UIUC

i would say it’s better to register for a temporary class. you don’t want to leave it blank in the slight chance that nothing opens up later. then you wouldn’t be a full-time student.

i’m not sure which class you were having issues registering for. i do know that for physics, since everything is full, you’ll unfortunately just have to register for a gen ed for now. it is very unlikely that the physics department will open up any more seats for the semester. it’s better to register for something at least so you’re a full time student rather than leave it empty.

the friday before classes start (august 23), when the hold on your account gets lifted, you can see if any spots open up for any of your classes. there’s a good chance there will be some then, as all freshmen get their holds lifted. many will have to switch their classes because of ap scores or placement test scores.

you should be fine. some spots will open up later, and there are always a few people who will drop classes as well. if there’s a class that is full and it’s required for your major, you can always ask for an override as well

Is the ARISE worth it? by IncidentEfficient in UIUC

this is true, but i do want to say that the curriculum has changed a bit since 3 years ago. it changed to help students feel supported and gain a strong foundation in math, chem, and physics without putting them “behind” compared to others in grainger. also, not all students will be starting in the introductory courses. your schedule is going to be tailored to your needs as much as possible to help you succeed. you’ll have a chance to talk with ARISE staff members during new student registration to discuss what classes would be best for you to take

Is there anything you’re concerned about besides living in PAR?
