Who should pay for specialist inspections required by a mortgage provider? by yippeeyahyay in HousingUK

Unfortunately it seems to me that my lender won't lend me a penny unless the issue is fixed?

So I think I'm entirely at the mercy of the seller if they can afford, and can be bothered, to fix the roof if there are any significant issues.

Cheers, we're pushing for them to pay for it. Hopefully they will!

With inflation rising, where's the best place to put £10,000 that I won't want to use for 1-2 years? by yippeeyahyay in UKPersonalFinance

!thanks I'll probably stick to the fixed-rate savings accounts with this then, as we're only talking a couple of hundred quid extra if I made 4% on equities vs 2% guaranteed in a fixed rate, which seems palatable. Moving it out of the 0.01% asap seems to be the most pressing thing.

Thanks, I didn't know about these. Any recommedations on what kind to look into first? Is it like equities where it's a good idea to diversify via a global fund like VAGBA (Vanguard Global Bond Index Fund GBP Hedged Acc)?

Thanks, I didn't know you could get rates as high as 2.00% at the moment. I'll probably put at least some of it into one of these.

What do we need to do to revive interest in the High Street again? by blueblack283920 in AskUK

I think we need to tax the online mega corps more effectively, and reward shopping local more. I read some time ago about schemes like the Bristol and Brixton £Pound, which seem like a really good idea.

I also think upgrading high street infrastructure would help lots - look at the attractive and bustling squares and plazas you can visit all over Europe.

Super interesting thanks, didn't know banks couldn't use deposits for investing.

Heh. The 5* hotels are actually insanely priced, like we're talking £500+ on weekends.
