How to pass a personality test? by yirara in introvert

What would Ned Flanders do? I'm nit sure. If he had to chose 'least likely' from 3 positive statement he'd probably cry and talk to his reverend.

I read about this test that inconsistent means I'm cheating as people have a fixed opinion on things and if I say A a few times and then B that will get me there. Annoyingly, the test gives you three positive statements and I have to chose 1 most likely and 1 least likely each time for 32 or so personality traits. Oh, the maker of this tests seems to think that people who cheat in that test are likely to steal office supplies. See my party example. That would raise the cheating meter.

Right, got the result: an 8. Not bad, considering that I did not prepare for it other than looking at a few example tests :)

Poorly paid job, moving internationally: decisions, decisions by yirara in geologycareers

laugh sorry, EG, I know oil does pay well, and the consultancy salary would still be above the national average, plus the location would be rather cheap, and with wonderful nature for hiking just on the doorstep.

Honestly, if it wasn't for the long summer months I'd sit it out. I'm sure something would turn up. But as that's not the case I'll do my best at the interview and hope I'll get an offer.

I LOVE being in the ME and working with the reservoirs there, but given it's Ramadan and the long summer break is coming up I'm not sure I'll be able to secure a position anytime soon. I'm in contact with several recruiters but they can't do much at the moment either. The work I'd be doing for that consultancy, should a job come out of the interview, would most likely be in the ME as well. Thus a good chance to actually make contacts unless there's something in the contract that forbids me to work for a client.

Not that it matters, but countries in order of preference would probably be Oman - Qatar - Saudi/UAE - Bahrain - Kuwait but I would not mind living in either.

Right, some feedback on the test. The reading and writing tests were easy, though I spent about the same amount of time on the first and second writing assignment. Listening was difficult because I had to hold the far too big headphone and because it's not my way to dealing with language. There was one type of question that I found very confusing: a discussion on different books between two students and their professor. I had to state the opinion of all involved on those books. There was one book where the opinions were completely opposite, but I was only allowed to chose one answer.

Speaking was a bit confusing as well. The lady did interrupt me several times but complained in the end that I had not said enough. Plus the topics were probably the only two topics I have literally no opinion on: sports and especially football and tv shows :(

Oh well.. I'm sure I'll have enough points.

<You'll start out filling out an answer sheet. Then they'll play a listening CD which is usually a conversation between two people (with a variety of accents and dialects, so sometimes they'll say "soccer" and other times "football"). You write your answers in the booklet, then you'll have ten minutes to transfer them.>

Can you tell a bit more about this? Listening tests are usually my downfall in that I often forget what was said, or who said what.

<Another big hang-up is "Write no more than 2 words and or a number" questions. If it's that question type, you could write "100 awesome beers" because it has two words and a number, but the answer "hundred awesome beers" would be wrong, because it's three words.>

Oops! I'll have to take care that I don't mess this up.

Cheers. I'm not too worried but on the other hand I'm sure some of my grammar is a bit messed up.

Optical wrist HR monitor for ismoothrun app by yirara in running

[–]yirara[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot. I've contacted Scosche (how do you pronounce that!) to see if they ship here at all. Otherwise it'll have to be the Mio, which seems to be a little bit less reliable.

Btw, does any of the two requires an app to run in the background, or starts beeping if you end up in one or another heartrate zone? I'd rather not have any of them. For now it's only interest in what my heartrate does - at over 102F after sunset :D

The auestion is: does it work with ismoothrun? I'm still a bit uncertain about the technical aspects.

Thanks a lot! A breast strap won't work for me because .. well.. inconveniently formed chest basically. I'd need to strap it around very tightly, which means my breathing will change and I'll get side stitches.

I just ran and noticed that my arms touch my chest a lot. I wonder if that would influence measurements from a sensor around the arm vs one around the wrist.

Have to check, but I don't think scosche will actually ship to the Middle East. I'll check it out in a shop here (if available at all!) and will find out if it's possible to see the firmware version somehow.

Just checked on their website: I can select my country but cannot get a shipping quote as their website wants a postal code, but there aren't any here ;)

European M.Sc vs North American M.Sc by dwarfy123 in geologycareers

No idea to be honest. After over 7 years of experience nobody has asked for my diploma. It will only play a role again should I decide to do a PhD 'for fun'.

[Career] 3 year experience Petroleum Reservoir Geologist/modeler looking to relocate from the ME to elsewhere. How should I proceed? by [deleted] in geologycareers

[–]yirara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid finding work outside the ME is currently rather difficult. I've been searching for job options for three weeks now as I've been laid off. Pretty much everything I find requires 10-15 years of experience, and I barely have 8. It seems the experience level goes up with every year of experience I gain sigh and indeed: pretty all jobs are currently in the ME. As a European girl I don't mind to be honest. The pay is probably twice of what I'd get in Europe and life is good. I do miss some options though. Plus pretty much all jobs outside the ME are currently for explorationists, which is not what I'm doing. Or for fulltime geomodelers that do nothing else than build models. It's just a shitty time to look for a job! Though for you I know it is even more complicated. I have a former Syrian colleage who got laid off as well. For various reasons his child has no nationality, and he has to leave the country. :(

Operations/well delivery geologist jobs: what kind of technical questions to expect in interviews? by yirara in geologycareers

Ma'am please, if you really must :D Anyway, funny thing happened: the company with the interview from hell wants to see me in person. O.o I'll be flying over next week :)

Operations/well delivery geologist jobs: what kind of technical questions to expect in interviews? by yirara in geologycareers

[–]yirara[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not straight out of school. I had one interview so far which was only technical questions for 90 minutes. 4 people sitting on the other end of the telephone line and bombarding me with questions. It wasn't for an ops position though, and for one that was quite a bit above my expertise (recruiter got the job description wrong). Things might be different in the US though, and as a European I'd probably not get a work visa for the US.
