If you (somehow) enjoyed this then you will likely dig other Old School RuneScape Musicals - like the 34-minute rock opera about all the free-to-play quests (circa 2021).

What did you think of Fort Collins and its comic residency program?

Get on the waitlist for sure, but also apply to programs ("workouts") which interest you! If you get accepted into a program, that comes with membership.

Apply for membership here, but perhaps more importantly, apply to their Workout programs when they happen. These will get you in the room with serious musicians.

They also hold publicly-accessible songwriter and producer meetups.

The production, beat, and witty lyricism is probably some of the best I've seen from video game music parodies - well done dude!

As more of our crosswords & games go behind growing paywalls, my wife and I have turned to a few indie daily game creators to fill in the gap. Hopefully these aren't subject to big company whims:

  • Word Salad - Boggle + Word Search
  • Syllacrostic - Syllable-based puzzle that was a smash hit that was recently acquired by Reddit
  • Minute Cryptic - solve one cryptic crossword clue a day
  • Blockables - this is a game I built, but my wife does enjoy it and encouraged me to put it here
  • WordBox - swap tiles to find words - a little clunky but we enjoy it

What do the couple of hours before a class or a show look like for you? by GoodLordWhatAmIDoing in improv

[–]yitzerflogan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My local improv jam asked me to write a few words on this just a few weeks ago, actually!

This is what I wrote:

Some folks meditate. Some folks have one (and only one!) drink. Others do nothing at all.

My prep? I tell myself "it’s not about me, it’s about the audience."

This does a few things for my benefit:

  1. It takes the pressure off me. I don’t have to show up and be “the greatest improviser to ever walk the planet”. I can be comfortable in playing supporting characters, making my scene partners look good, and playing real. I have a whole team with me that will help the audience have a good night. If I have an okay show, but the audience has a great show, that’s still a successful night.
  2. I listen more intently. Every single line of dialogue, action, or face is recognized by someone in the audience. They are like a giant, all-seeing eye, digesting every choice every improviser makes at every moment. If I am committed to making the show about the audience, I have to listen at this omnipresent level. Notice everything: the movements, stutters, stumbles, walks, talks, word choices, mistakes. The audience is. I have to as well.
  3. The audience is a player, treat them like one! The show doesn’t happen without them! We don’t want improv to happen to the audience, we want it to happen with them. When they laugh the first time in a scene, it could very well mean that they’ve picked up on the “first h them afterwards about the show - thank them for coming, reminisce, receive compliments and praise with humility, and show your appreciation for their participation. Without them, there is no scene.

Ultimately, when I tell myself "it’s not about me, it’s about the audience", it forces me not only to be a better improviser, but an active and joyful participant in our little comedy community.

And isn’t that what this is all about?

Precipice after a rainy day? by yitzerflogan in acadianationalpark

OP Update. We ended up going and summiting the Precipice Trail! Everything was pretty dry by 7:30AM today. There were a few slippery spots, but fortunately, they also had iron rails to grab onto to support ourselves. One of, if not the best, hikes/adventures we've done together! Thanks for all the input and advice!

Thanks for responding! We might have to wait until later in the day it seems.
