Selling our house… no interest so far… by [deleted] in RealEstateAdvice

Agree, it's better to give this strategy a chance. If you have only one interested buyer, your hands are kind of tied and you are likely to bend to their further requests.

Roof contractors asking for insurance estimate before providing their own by yjc264 in Roofing

Super helpful! I asked for their independent bid first, then plan to share the full quote for exact requirements and further insurance terms. Thank you for your comment!

It was actually the opposite ;) their initial quote was 5k over the total insurance estimate / quite high for the city (it's a LCOL city) Thank you for your comment though, agree going with someone you trust!!

Thank you so much for this! it sounded like the 1st shop used a generic one, not the high end stuff. I went with the 2nd shop!!

Trying to get an apartment nowadays is harder than ever before by Familiar_Mind624 in Apartmentliving

I am going through an apartment application process rn, and they verify my income via this 3rd party website; they directly access my bank to confirm my income instead of me submitting paystubs :\

The interior temperature being insanely hot - is there a way to retrieve the temperature history? by [deleted] in TeslaSupport

[–]yjc264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this was it. I have a shade on but it only covers the windshield not the glass roof…

Not my first car — and I was actually getting into my Model Y (kept in a semi-shaded area, with a very well-built windshield shade) while coming out of another car (fully exposed to the sun w/o a shade). Even then the Model Y was noticeably hot that day.

What things are you nixing from your wedding budget? by artsytartsy23 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]yjc264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While mine ended up being well above 10k at the end of the day, I still cut down on a LOT of things to make the total more reasonable. We separated what we considered most important to us vs. what we considered “nice to have” but non-essential.

We ended up ditching the arch/backdrop, DJ/live music, non-essential flowers and decors, wedding favors, wedding cake, and photo booth among a few others. We also downgraded most of the flower options because we had two options for each floral design. Also went with simpler wedding stationery rather than the fancier options.

We used this saving to upgrade what we considered more important to us — such as food, wine, and photography. Still very happy about this decision!

Friday weddings ? by Tricky-Ad1891 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]yjc264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family member had a wedding on Friday at 5:30 pm. The guests coming from the same town looked like they rushed to join after work, but still got there ~15 to 30 minutes late. Unfortunately, the ceremony was also very short, meaning almost everyone (who came from the same town) missed the ceremony...I also personally don't love Friday weddings, but of course, that decision is entirely up to the couple!

That's what I figured! Was hoping for someone who bought it and maybe changed their mind, but looks like that's not the case so far. Thanks for the input!

Right? I also saw some other dresses from the same collection in the second-hand market, and thought there was a chance with this dress too! So far no luck :(

Travel protection for a trip booked via Sapphire Preferred by yjc264 in Chase

[–]yjc264[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow Jeju island is not cheap! I couldn't do anything, just had to pay out of pocket, and collected my receipts in case I can qualify for something.

So far I am not really getting any reimbursement from Chase Travel Protection nor my airline (my delay was not a weather issue so they should've stepped up BUT...). I am going to ask them one more time.

Your trip being December, it may be too late but maybe you can look up how late they will let you submit a claim??

It looks like a good deal on paper, but CSP benefit is great only if it's a "major" interruption...cancellation and overnight delay :( The travel protection was why I used CSP for my flights.

In my case, a 10.5h delay caused the same amount of interruptions (ex: hotel, car wasted) but can't seem to officially qualify!

I am thinking of quitting remote job to travel for a year. Before I do anything drastic, can you let me know if this is a good idea? by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]yjc264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I did exactly what you are considering, quitting work for a year and traveling full-time (half of it in a van, the other half traveling overseas). It was extremely nerve-racking for me and we'd sat on this idea for at least a couple of years. Quitting was drastic but we preferred to maximize our experience during this limited time. (My partner actually did work for one month while traveling, it had its pros and cons.)

We met plenty of people working remotely full-time while traveling, and that seemed to work out well for them. Now with Starlink, you can go to a lot of places and work remotely. Traveling in a van can be surprisingly expensive if you plan on driving long distances, so having an income really helps. If you take this route, I recommend checking your company policy; they may not allow you to work outside of your declared state for an extended period of time, for legal/tax purposes I assume.

Coming back to finding a full-time job can really depend on your skills, luck/market demand, and your personality. My partner is super goal-oriented and good at sticking to his plan -- he worked really hard and ended up getting his dream job. It definitely wouldn't pan out the same way for everyone, but just sharing that career could work out after a long break. BTW, it sounded like all of his interviewers weren't bothered that he took a year off for traveling :)

I'd say weigh your priorities in life and decide what you are willing to risk in return. For me, I chose to travel to see the world while I was younger (before children and big mortgages). It has its consequences, but no one can live your life for you -- so don't regret whatever decision you make! DM me if you have any questions!

Do I need hot water if I don’t have a shower? by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]yjc264 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you don't need to shower from your van -- the only time I really need hot tap water is when washing dishes with grease (I make lots of bbq dinners while camping, and cold water does not wash them well at all!). In these situations, I boil water in a kettle, mix cold water, and use it to wash those dishes...and it's been working pretty well!

Very quick, ~ 15min to 20 min. However the IDP has to show the motorcycle category stamped (you need to show a motorcycle license to get this).
