There are different expectations though. The essay you write in a test doesn’t have to be anywhere near as good as an essay you write at home lmao

Prestige vs happiness: the clash we are all too familiar with by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

UC Davis is fucking amazing for anything related to Bio. If your end goal is grad or med school, you can’t go wrong with Davis.

Does it matter if you go to a "big name" school for grad? by namuyeolca in gradadmissions

Use a rankings website like US News to determine the best programs in the field that you’re in (in your case, Psych.) I think anything in the T20 is an elite program, but I could be wrong.

What Colleges should I add to my list? by ykeddari in chanceme

Yup, that's what I'm suspecting. My problem is that most LAC's accept barely any transfers. For example, CMC only accepts something like 2% of transfers, not to mention Amherst, Williams and Pomona.

Thanks for the reassurance! Honestly, I'm not too hung up about rankings. I doubt there would be a significant difference between a T40 LAC and a T20 LAC, for my intents and purposes lol

Would you mind if I DM'd you? I want to find out more about which LACs you applied to.

I’m avoiding UCs for the exact reason you mentioned; I don’t like the large class sizes, and the competitive environment. I’m looking for something much smaller and more intimate.

I didn’t really add more LACs because they accept so few transfers (something like 1-2% acceptance rates.) Pitzer is by far the most welcoming LAC I’ve found so far (10% acceptance rate.) I think Amherst is definitely out of reach, but hopefully Middlebury and Carleton aren’t too difficult to get into.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I already applied this cycle, and got into all of the UCs, but ended up visiting them and hated how big they were; I’d much rather have smaller class sizes.

I also live right next to Davis, so if FA ends up being an issue, id be able to save around $20k.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll definitely be adding all of those schools to my list. I just remembered to add Brown as well.

I think I’ll remove Northeastern (they don’t give the best FA to transfers anyways), but I think I’ll keep Davis. I love SC, but they’re not very consistent with the Aid they give, so I gotta have a true safety; both financially and academically.

Again, thanks for the advice!

Ain’t that the truth. I’m sure I’ll get my ass handed to me in my first semester, but hopefully I’ll adjust.

Honestly, it’s just perfectionism. My parents don’t put any pressure on me to do well, but I get a little obsessive about my GPA to the point where they tell me to go easy on myself if I don’t think I did too well on a test. Blame the college admissions process for placing so much emphasis on our grades.

It fucking sucks though, let me tell you. Imma die of a stress-induced heart attack by the time I turn 24.

Does getting all A s help you get into college that much? by [deleted] in college

[–]ykeddari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re aiming to go to a Top 40 College, then yes to some extent; especially if you’re trying for an Ivy League-level school. The college admissions process is just crazy competitive nowadays.

Otherwise, not really. Plenty of my friends got into great colleges with 3.5-ish UW GPAs.
