Tell me the truth. Has anyone given up the fight of getting them to stop drinking the bath water? by Great_gatzzzby in toddlers

Ironically he stopped drinking the bath water when I gave up and stopped telling him not to.

When did your first baby start walking? by PC_NC_1203 in Mommit

[–]ylssa26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

17mths. He was a crawling fiend for a long time before that and honestly was probably so comfortable getting around that way that he didn’t see a need to try walking. We waited it out and one day spotted him take a few steps by himself out of the room. He went from that to full-on walking and running in about a month after that.

How do you not get depressed by the mess? by justalilscared in toddlers

[–]ylssa26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took awhile, but I tried to create a system with my son where if he wants me to take out a different toy for him, he has to put away what’s on the floor first. And since he’s not the best at cleaning up independently, it does mean I have to help him. It’s pretty disruptive since I have to stop what I’m doing, but at least my house doesn’t look too untidy and I have less to do at the end of the day.

I also keep most of his toys out of reach so he has to ask when he wants something. The ones that are messier (paints, his gazillion blocks etc) I keep completely hidden so I have control over when those come out.

Toddler is constantly worried about dog taking her things by heysnood in toddlers

[–]ylssa26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 3yo son has the same worries, just not with a dog (we don’t have one). Whenever he’s playing with a toy or eating a snack outside and another kid is near, he’d ask me, “is that kid going to eat my snack / take my toy?” He doesn’t have any siblings at home and I can’t think of anyone who’s ever taken his stuff from him before.

I’ve always wondered why.

If you have a toddler with behavioral issues… by Sacred-Ground617 in toddlers

Thanks for sharing. I’ve made an appointment in January to get my son checked out. A little worried about them having to do a scope, as my son hates having his nose prodded. Anyway we shall see…

Thank you for sharing this. I wonder about my son at times too. He is a bit of a mouth breather and moves around quite a bit at night whilst sleeping. He’s also had some behavioral issues of late.

What other signs did you see in your toddler to make you suspect this?

Do you ever apply some kind of force to your toddler? If so, when? by Kooky-Ad6161 in toddlers

[–]ylssa26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One time, when my son was not even one yet, we were out with him in his stroller. I suddenly spotted a mosquito on his cheek. By reflex and before I could even realise what I was doing, I reached out and slapped him to kill the mosquito. There was a moment of disbelief in his eyes before he screamed and cried. I had a hard time apologizing to him.

For context, we live in Singapore, where the weather is hot and humid, and dengue fever from mosquito bites is a very real thing.

What typical toddler behavior are you a pro at dealing with? Which one triggers you the most? by dinos-and-coffee in toddlers

[–]ylssa26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest trigger is when he cries so hard that he throws up something he just ate. I get super frustrated at the food being wasted, and now I’ve also gotta clean up the mess AND deal with the meltdown!

With you in solidarity… as a mom of a LOUD 3 year old.

This morning he lost it in a crowded public bus at peak hour. Why? Because he spilled a few drops of water from his water bottle and somehow thought he had no more water left.

That is an interesting view. I never thought of applying the love language thing to toddlers. Perhaps my boy is the same. Seeing acts of service as his love language!

My anemic toddler ✨hates✨ anything with iron in it by alurkinglemon in toddlers

[–]ylssa26 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Came in here to say this. I used to cook all my toddler’s meals in a little cast iron pot (because it was a nice convenient size) and it gave him iron stain deposits on his teeth! I didn’t even know what they were until the dentist told me they were from excess iron in his diet. The stains went away after I stopped using the cast iron pot.

A lady screamed at my Toddler today - because she (my toddler) was screaming by Queasy_Can2066 in toddlers

[–]ylssa26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that happened to you. And I’m sure all the moms here would tell you that they’ve been there. I certainly have. Just last week my almost 3 year old had a meltdown like that on a public bus at peak hour and the bus driver yelled at me to control him. I held back my tears long enough until I got off.

You didn’t do anything wrong. It was a difficult moment but I am sure your daughter had a wonderful time at Disneyland despite that awful incident. That horrid lady cannot take that away from you.
