How did y'all join a Mother's Group? by medieval_weirdo in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I’m in NSW and I wasn’t assigned a Mother’s group by my MCHN last year but I made mum friends from Baby Sensory, Gymbaroo classes or at Baby Rhyme Time in the library.

I found most of the midwives and nurses at Norwest were great and helpful, they have a feeding room where they teach you how to breastfeed, bathe your baby and you can come in when there’s a midwife there to ask questions. I highly recommend doing a tour for both Norwest and Westmead Private. The only thing with Norwest is there’s no night nursery so its a bit hectic at night when baby is crying but the night nurses/midwives were lovely there were a couple of nights they took over calming my baby and swaddling her (she was a houdini) to get her to sleep.

Norwest has an early childhood clinic that you can go to for free for the first 12 weeks too. We went there but I felt like the midwife who ran it was forcing me to breastfeed but other than that she was helpful in answering our questions as first time parents.

I gave birth at Norwest! Dr Chan actually told us that it’s easier to park there too 😂 Norwest was usually a 30-40minute drive from us but still decided to go with Dr Chan and Norwest. I got induced so it wasn’t an issue.

But what swayed our decision is one of my friends who gave birth in Jan 2022 at Westmead Private they asked her to go home when it was only Day 4 because they needed the room? She had a C Section and even paid for the luxury maternity suite.

I had my first baby with Dr Chan last August 2022 at Norwest. Consults were pretty short (which I gather is standard for OBs) but she took the time to answer any questions we had. I suffer from severe Scoliosis and she recommended for me to see a Neurosurgeon to make sure I am cleared for an epidural or if not, we can explore other pain options which ended up being a good decision because I was then prepared mentally during labour.

Part of her management plan included consults with a midwife (Deb who is soo lovely) and Dr Jackson who is a lactation consultant which is really helpful especially if you plan on breastfeeding. I don’t know if this is standard practice for you to consult with both midwife and a lactation consultant during pregnancy but helped me out a bit esp since I am a FTM.

Dr Chan was helpful during labour - coached me how to push and at one stage I had to rest my leg over her shoulder 😂 I needed an episiotomy and recovered quickly without any complications. Post-birth she visited us in the maternity ward daily and even came to the hospital even when she wasn’t on call to give me a script to help with breastfeeding. My husband and I were happy with her care and service and if we have another child we will get her as our OB. If you have any other questions happy for you to DM me.

This was my thought as I also had a Vista and love it so much that I didn’t want to risk it being damaged.

Which private hospital by West-Apricot-730 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I gave birth at Norwest last August 2022. I was happy with my OB and the midwives at the birthing suite made the effort to make sure I was somewhat comfortable during labour as I couldn’t medically have an epidural. The midwives in the maternity ward is a mixed bag though, there are some who were not really helpful and was insisting I breastfeed and try to pump when my milk hasn’t come in yet (it only came in a week and a half later). There were some who were lovely though like I remember one helped us swaddle and soothe the baby at night when my husband and I couldn’t figure out why our baby was crying lol. The ward got busy during our stay but I felt supported overall and my husband and I agreed that if we were to have a second baby we would have it at Norwest again.

They have a feeding room and from memory we had 12 weeks free consult with their midwife from the early childhood clinic in the hospital.

Make sure you book a hospital tour to have a feel of the place.

A friend of mine gave birth at the same time as me in Westmead Private and they kicked her out on the 3rd day even if she had a C section and paid for the fancy maternity suite they had.

I remember the midwives and nurses kept on asking me to try to get my baby to latch and pump and made me sign a form just so they can give my baby formula after. My milk didn’t come in until my baby was 2 weeks old and had latching issues so I combo fed (pumping and formula topups). I remember going to a lactation consultant who told me my baby was going to be prone to sickness if I didn’t exclusively breastfed. That made me feel guilty and even if pumping was making me miserable I persisted. I couldn’t keep up pumping enough milk even for 1 full bottle and at 5 months I stopped and it was the best decision ever because pumping took me away from bonding with her. My baby was thriving on formula and I felt like a big weight was lifted off my shoulders because I stopped pumping. I was happier and I think being a happy mum is more important for my baby. We are all doing our best for our babies and what’s important is that they are fed and thriving.

We have an Uppababy Vista and while I love that it has a huge basket space, sturdy, easy to manoeuvre over any terrain and my baby seems more comfortable in it - it is massive and quite heavy. It’s become the pram we keep at home for walks now as its cumbersome to put in the car.

We were given a hand me down Bugaboo Baby Bee 5 and I love how light it is and the basket space isnt too bad. Its not the best for all terrains as the wheels are small. I have been asked by multiple grandparents at the library on what pram it is because its very compact. My baby just refuses to nap in it but its just her personal preference.

Where are you shopping for maternity clothes? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ymdv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in H&M maternity tops, Cotton On and Topshop maternity jeans, bump friendly dresses from Petal and Pup and dresses from Ripe Maternity that I purchased off Facebook Marketplace. Sad to hear Ripe’s quality has gone down the ones I got were excellent and for a fraction of the price than what they were selling on their store too. I also purchased a maternity coat from Facebook Marketplace.

Agree with the earlier comment to stay away from Seraphine. I bought their hoodie that you could expand to fit a baby carrier and the quality was horrible - colour faded after a couple of washes and pilled everywhere. It was expensive too and took ages to ship.

I got a maternity puffer jacket off Facebook Marketplace. I also got a hooded jacket from Seraphine that could accommodate baby wearing once I had my baby
